Please Help With Finding A Job!

I'm in New Zealand at the moment on a working Visa. Since funds are now getting low I need to find full time employment to ensure a steady income. I've found a part time evening job which pays my rent and most of my petrol but obviously I can't live on this and need a day job. This seems easier said than done, as I've applied to about a dozen places now without success. If I don't find anything then I'll have no choice but to return to the UK, something I really do not want to do.

So I'm throwing my CV up here in the hope that someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I've googled it but everyone seems to have a different answer. Thing is my employment history is not very interesting and I don't have anything notable to talk about.. I'm not applying for high flying jobs, just anything within reason that's going. So with this in mind, am I on the right track with my CV or am I just talking a load of ste that will get filed under BIN? I'm not really sure what, if any, jargon to use to make the uninteresting more interesting

I have just read your CV, its not very well constructed, sorry not trying to be negative but there should be your name and address first, then details of what you can do, then list of employment history but make it easy to read. Im sending you a copy of mine so you can see what I mean.

Yer CV is ummm brief!

for NZ

1. Drop the BA (Hons) at the top for jobs that don't need it
2. Drop the UK address as it does not seem that you want to be permanent in NZ

3. Target your CV for each job.
That means for this job http://www.seek.co.nz/job/automotive-b-parts-b-con..., expand your CV for a *page or so* on Halfords and Hidsons matching what the are wanting in the ad to what you did at those stores/dealership. Tell them what they want to hear, but tell the truth!

This is the first interview, so make it good and honest

Give them a link to the websites of Halfords and Hidsons , explain your were one of a team of x parts assistants,and x mechanics, service dept etc and it was a citreon dealership

Explain why you did your BA ( explaining the gap between Hidsons and Halfords)

See if you can equate your A levels and GCSEs to the NZ equivlents (approximately) most NZ'rs will not know (i don't )

Have go, try out a new CV for an automotive job (assuming you want one?? )and post it up on goggle docs again. I have a brother in Canada that was a service manager for VW and Ford dealerships, so once you have had another go, i'll point him to it and see if he has any feedback to give.
Once it is polished up, have a crack at going to the dealerships and dropping off your CV with a polished as possible 30 sec speel

A lot of jobs are just made by contacts and dropping off the CV and hoping and praying.

well the good news is that i found a job. Only a one month contract at a call centre, which really doesn't look like it will be much fun. But it's money and better than doing nothing all day. Oh and i won't get a full day off until 1st may. Cheers for the replies, I will still need to redo the cv for the next job hunt. Now just need the time to do it....
