Received my compomotives and R1Rs last week and really enjoying my car again however, its already come time to remove the engine again. Its been a nice month of driving and 2k miles achieved.
My upgraded helix clutch is already slipping badly with the awesome 480lb ft trevor gave it, time for the heavy duty paddle clutch, Valve springs and a further push to get the 550 ponies…

Cannot believe I have to pull it all out agin.... not amused
This is concerning, the clutch I'm using is coping with well over 550lbs of torque, has taken huge amounts of abuse, including 0-100-0, track and test days, and the usual stuff on the road, without a hiccup. We have only broken one of these in the racecar and that was a mechanical failure not the friction plate.
Does this cast a doubt over the consistency of the Helix clutch, I'm assuming that we all have the same clutch. The 5 paddle unit.

Nope just been on the phone to Mardi Gras and we certainly do not all have the same unit, some are organic,some not,some paddle 4 or 5 or 6,and some are friction plate sprung, some not...... I was advised that I need the ceramatilic 6 paddle,I asked for the best when I had this done as I knew I would be pushing the torque figures to the clutches limits,and did not want to be exactly where I am now...not happy is the understatement of the decade! So why was I not offered it then ?
Oh Well Rant over.
Pull it all out and wait 6 days while they sort it out.
Matt....and any one else.. find out exactly what you are getting is my advice.
Anyone want to buy a Noble ? (Never raced or rallied)

They say there are lots of different cluth assys fitted to the Nobles. Depending on what you have is what you get back.
I understand this as I'm sure the factory purchased what was available at the price considering they were all good for the level of Torque as standard.
When you ask for a clutch to take 550 lbft though, thats what I expected to get the first time round !

Adrian this is not a paddle clutch on my car just the unsprung organic friction plate with the outer AP pressure plate modified to increase clamping load. I'm going to ask for the beefiest paddle clutch on offer.
Mark if it still holds 1st 2nd and 3rd without slipping as it is now I shall make the run on the 3rd the final blast before its ripped to bits again. Otherwise I plan on taking my new daily beater 520hp RS6 along.

I better get on the phone in the morning as mine only arrived there last week.
To be fair all I asked for was the version of the uprated Noble clutch they do and was quoted about £300 for the two parts.
I won't be running the power some of you guys are but I still need to know that I'm not gonna have to take that bloody engine out again

The STD AP unit is rated at 420lbft so the modified you should be ok for that plus the 20 percent increase helix suggested !!! Although to be honest after speaking to helix at the autosport show I'm not convinsed !!!! In theory it should cope upto 520lbft but now I'm starting to wonder ...... Although it's not an issue with a 5 speed box !!!:-)

Does this manufacturer recommend a specific break-in procedure for their aftermarket clutches?

I suspect no single-plate clutch is going to stand up to that kind of torque without first being "seasoned" with a reasonable number of modest load/power cycles over 300-500 miles.

i think the clutch could cope with 500lb ft but only if it reaches that higher up the rev range, my car very rapidly ramped up to 480 lbft at just over 4000rpm and it just cant seem to take it flat out through the revs, if i accelerate at 3/4 its fine with no slip.prob less of a problem in the 5 speed too. I ran my car for 500miles before the remap too.
Paddle clutch for big power boys! no point messing around.
The trouble is 500+lbft of torque is a shed load to control at any rpm !!! to protect my whole drive train Trevor worked hard to control the torque right through the rev range and he did a great job !!! peak torque at 5000 rpm was great but even better it stays there until 6500 and still makes 350lbft at 7200 !!! feels absolutely awsome on the road and is kind to the whole drivetrain !! hopefully meaning i will get less issues long term .....i hope
