Bruce Forsythe "Knighthood"

Sorry if this is a repost .......What has Brucie done to cause him not to get knighted for gods sake??? Olympic athletes, footballers minor celebs but no Brucie. WHY???

Did he not express a view recently that was not in line with the BBC partty line?



IIRC he was opposed to the bint (Arleen??) from strictly Come Dancing from being dropped in favour of a younger model (Aleshia Dixon).

He made his comments and then a few days later was seen to back track.

I suspect he has fallen out of favour.

Not being funny but if you look at what "Knighthood" actually is a lot of people who have been Knighted don't acctually deserve it in a littral sense.

Cant see the footballers running off to lead a crusade.....now theres an idea

More than that though, isn't it.

Knighthoods used to get given out for great achievements from a Brit on the world stage. Pioneers in science, technology, human effort, that sort of stuff. The sort of stuff that we could all look up to as a society.

However its a sad reflection on a dwindling society that light entertainment gets anything at all. Knighthoods used to buy popularity in a society where to appear on TV is the pinnacle of anyones ambition.

Knighthoods aren't worth even the length of time it took me to type this rant anymore. They would be a joke, if they weren't such a sad reflection on us as a population.

I think some of you are missing the point! He has been a much loved entertainer for 50 odd years, he is not a flash in the pan rower who won an olympic medal and is then forgotten. There are many knights who are the same transient entities but Bruce has stood the test of time and is still loved by many..

And how do you know he doesn't give to charity, he is after all a member of the Veriety club!

You can get an MBE for bloody hairdressing these days (see Trevor Sorbie MBE) so although Brucie has not saved the world from AIDS he does deserve to be a grade higher than that.

Would Sir be referring to the flash in the pan rowing career that spanned 16 years of Olympics and 5 gold medals and 9 WC golds. Yup definitely not deserving.

Knighthoods don't really mean alot these days. Alan Sugar has one ffs.

Most people on the Honours list don't really deserve them, and the higher the honour, it generally seems the more dubious the claim.

I'm not against politicians who have served their country for a long time with distinction receiving peerages, but I do have an issue with Baroness "I used to work a political campaigning organisation and a quango" and Lord "I was a total unknown until I donated a lot of money to my favourite party" and Lord "I'm here to represent the embodiment of diversity". ENOUGH!

One thing I'm absolutely sure about is that Bruce Forsythe does not deserve a knighthood.

Not spent enough time promoting the Labour Party I think is your answer.

It does feel like knighthoods are somewhat lacking in value today. I think the recognition of services to the country is very important, but it's just the Labour Party who have totally devalued them. But you knew that was going to happen when Blair started to entertain the likes of Blur and Oasis at No10. Policy by the pop culture.
