Valley gasket end seals
Discussion
Hello You Landy chaps, just popped over here from the TVR forum.
Have a 5.2 rover engine in a Griff. The valley gasket oil leak changed from a gentle seep to a gush so have whipped the manifold off to change the gasket and end seals. Thing is I am having problems getting the bit of the end seals that fits in the V between the head and block to fit, they won’t go in far enough to allow the seal top surface to fit flush with the manifold, the moulded plastic bit seems bigger than the hole it has to sit in. Having looked at pictures of the end seals on various web sites there seems to be variation between the moulding shape and the way the hatching pattern is printed on the underside. I have just bought a new pair in sealed Land Rover parts bags and the plastic V part looks even bigger than the ones I previously got mail order. The ones that came out had much smaller V sections and fitted nicely but have split lengthwise which may be because the material is lot softer.
Are you lot having any problems with the currently available end seals and is it normal to trim them a bit when fitting ?

Hi Steve
I have replaced a few of these seals with out any problems or any trimming. Have your heads or block been skimmed?
Mick
Yes I think that is what the problem is. The block has been Top Hat lined and then decked, the heads have been skimmed but I can't see that would change the gap.I have replaced a few of these seals with out any problems or any trimming. Have your heads or block been skimmed?

Suppose I would just be happier if other people had to trim them as well.
