Just how do these robbing fking bds get away with it? You MUST have insurance by law, nothing has changed in the last 12 months apart from us both being a year older.....so i was a bit surprised that they are asking me for £100 MORE this time around. I've been driving since i was 17 (now 35), have NEVER made a claim, my wife is younger but has still had a licence 9 years(& the fking premium went UP more when i was playing around online & took het off!).

Have since tried some of the other companies online and they are EVEN bloody more expensive. I feel very sorry for the younger drivers if i am paying this much more god knows what they will get stiffed with.....

I'm feeling quite smug about my insurance costs at the moment... what's yours and what car? Who you with and who have you tried?

Insurance is a highly competitive business so their margins really aren't huge. The rise is almost entirely down to an increase in the number of personal injury claims.

So saying that "nothing has changed in the last twelve months" is not true. The chances of you having an accident have probably dropped slightly but the likely cost to the insurance company if you do have one has risen sharply.

I use quidco or topcashback to get a little bit of the premium back.

Last year the mrs and I got 100 each from Quidco for taking a premium with Privilege.

It's your postcode and job. There must be a lot of claims for people with a similar car in your area.

Yup this is the reason. Come on, we must have all seen those ads on TV encouraging you to call in if you have had a no fault accident and the I'll get you a nice big fat cheque.

Well who do you think pays the cheque.....ultimately, us, all of us via increased premiums. If people stopped jumping on the 'something for nothing' band wagon then all our premiums would go down.....unfortunately we live in a society that encourages this behaviour and mix with people too dumb to realise what affect these claims will ultimately have.....or indeed they simply don't care; which I think is far closer to the truth.

The way things are going I can only see that our premiums will get even higher, after all, has anyone noticed these 'claims' companies diminishing in number?

renewals are always higher, they hope you wont notice and will just renew. Every year mine comes in at about £100 higher than last year. One quick phone call and its back to where it should be.

^ This. Just do a quick check on a comparison website, and then go back to your insurer and tell them they are no longer competitive. They usually give in pretty quickly.

this year also has alot to do with the fact insurers have lots bucket loads of cash on the stock market in the last year and therefore are grabbing it back through our premiums.

Same position as Dave. Clean nose, hundreds of years NCB, no points, safe area etc. Yet both mine and wifeys insurance went up this year to cover all those who have suffered backneckitis and who couldn't drive in the snow...

The joys of motoring eh.

Hmmm,

whacking my details through Confused.com suggests my premium will go down about £20 this year. I guess I'm quite lucky if premiums are generally on the up. I know I'll need to change companies as usual - renewals are always a pi$$ take...

It isn't looking good for me; don't need to renew until September but as someone drove into the back of me in December and I had to make a claim, I thought I'd test the water this weekend and get an idea of quotes, just incase they were stupidly high (in which case I'd consider changing car).

£250 increase on my current car (9-3 Aero) alone, then tried various cars with various engines/power - Landy Defender, Clio 182, Clio 1.6, Puma, MX-5, E39, 147, GTV, MGB GTs even... everything, absolutely everything, was coming in around £520 fully comp with £500 excess FFS!!

I paid £340 on my insurance last year and thanks to some twunt not looking where he was going I'm now going to get shafted on my premium frown

mad

Can we maybe just take everyone who makes a personal injury claim and finish the job? I can't stand compensation culture and I wish the theiving chavs would just accept accidents happen. You can't hold other people responsible for situation you get yourself into. I know this isn't news to anyone on here, but it's a constant source of irritation to me that the great unwashed don't seem to get it.

have spent 30 mins trying various insurers, nearly fell off my chair, made the renewal look CHEAP.
