I have added the M6 as a possible new car to the list I am considering in the US (also looking at a Shelby Mustang GT500 and a 997 Carrera).

Tried doing a PH search on "M6" and "BMW M6" but not getting any hits.

Are there any big problem areas I need to be aware of on the M6? Will be a 2006 or 2007 car, and would be buying through a BMW dealership.

BMW Car did a great buying guide on these in July 2009. Am sure you can buy a back copy. Covers everything!

Wouldn't really matter that much in the USA as their petrol is so much cheaper compared to us in 'being petrol wallet raped' UK!

To the OP - take a look here for all things M powered and of course including the M6

Some people have experienced problems with the SMG gearbox, although I think they have tended to be software issues rather than actual failures.

Apart from that, they seem to be pretty bullet proof.

I just don`t think I could stomach the running costs just yet as I do about 20,000 miles a year. Give it a year or two though and one shall be mine. That is if I get to keep the Z4MC as well!

It's not just the economy either it has a small tank too so the range is rubbish, you'd be filling it up every other day.
