Have the Lambo on with Chubb who are excellent but they wanted too much for my cooper S so decided to look elsewhere...

Went to Admiral as they insure my RR Vogue SE (for a very reasonable amount of £780 per annum - so went back to thema dn said what about the mini cooper S - bearing in mind its an 02 worth about 6k adn is only for bombing around in now and again and driving to station - the amount ? £690.... They said do I have no claims - I said yes over 9 yrs (which is max) but said that I had already used this discount on the RR.... but its pretty stupid marketing form them isnt it ? I mean I cant drive both at same time - so funnnily enough on line i cover it with Elephant (which is same company) using the 9 yrs plus I have on the ferrari & lamborghini cover i have had over the years.... for £305.... including commuting ...so same no claims as used for Admiral ...

I mean if you have had no claims for that time then surely that can be applied to more than one vehicle you are insuring no ? What's the point of a multi car policy that is more expensive than insuring them indiviually...anyone else found this ?

Insurance business' confuses me ....

Why not use Masterpiece for the whole fleet?

Saves messing about andf the cover is second to none.

When I did my Admiral multicar they applied my no claims discount to all cars as I was the main user of all cars insured.

I also found the multicar policy more expensive than when insuring individually - I currently now have one car on a separate Admiral insurance policy and another two on a Multicar. Also gets very messy when changing address as they only updated one of the policies despite charging me extra because of the postcode change on all three cars! Multicar sounds good but actually in practice not that great. Also watch out at renewal time as they then try and sneak in an overall increase across the whole multicar policy!

i never understood why ncb only applies to one car, if you prang it the negative affect will apply to all the cars you insure, talk about swing it there way, i have 2 main cars insured with admiral(not multicar)and my others all on with hagerty modern classics? or something, always found them superb.

Hate to break it to you but if you're saying you've insured it with 9 years on the basis that you have it with other cars then your policy will be invalid.

Most companies will offer an intro or mirrored bonus in your situation though (I'm surprised Admiral wouldn't), find a decent broker to do this for you - A-Plan, Flux, etc should be able to help.

One of the reasons bonus can't be used on all vehicles is if you insure another car and add say a 17yr old on the insurer won't be collecting the correct premium for the risk so will end up out of pocket.

Bad news Andysv - i've had my GT3 on Hagerty's modern classic policy and they've now had a "change of direction" come renewal. Up shot is my premium has gone up 40% cuz they basically dont want to insure me any more!

Mine was up for renewal with hagerty next month and now they wont insure me unless 3000 miles p/a... which normally isn't a problem except this year going abroad so had to go elsewhere

They basically dont want to insure modern Porsches (not sure if it applies to other makes) and want to go back to insuring "true" classics, ie over 10 years old!

They told me they weren't insuring under 30s on new policies when I tried to renew with them after letting my policy lapse, having been quoted about 40% higher than the previous years premium. I also hear from other people they're not keen on my type of car either.

Grumbas - I don't understand where you are coming from - policy is for my wife and I - why would it not be insured properly ? Have never had an accident and have owned various cars.

I have 9 yrs on the Lamborghini and 3 years on the polo as main driver

So if i have used the 9 yrs to get the discount on the RR with Admiral why if I am insuring another car elsewhere can you not use the no claims that you have for another car - after all its about your history isnt it ? Proving that you are not a major risk ?

Are you saying is should use the 3 yrs on the polo for the mini instead ?

This is what i dont understand ..and it is not written anywhere either so good luck if they try and null and void the policy IMHO

Any insurance buffs on here explain how and why this works ? Very odd

When i come to reinsure the Lambo for example will they say - oh no the no claims you have run up you have used elsewhere ...of course they wont

He's saying this: If you've used the 9 years no-claims on one car, then you can't use it on another car. You'll be uninsured come claim time! Unless the insurance company is completely aware of the situation, you may be storing up problems later.

I've just been through this too with Privilege Insurance....

Agreed it should be but that would lead to many abusing the system and can think of a few risks as to why they do it on policy and not person. That's why you have multi-car policies and 'mirrored no-claims'.

I'm pretty confident it will be in the small print somewhere. At some point they should have asked you (and probably did) a question that should/will have addressed this (whether you realised it or not).

Can't help as I don't work in insurance but I can assure you that your policy is invalid having spoken to many companies and brokers about this in the past.

No, if you're honest, they will. If you're sly, come claim time you won't be insured.

There are loads of brokers/companies that will sort you out and probably bring your premiums down, you just need to make a few phonecalls.

Anyway, you've been warned, good luck. thumbup

Ref Admiral multicar policy, I don't have one but after I did an internet quote with them, they phoned me and asked whether I had any other cars in my household as I could get a discount when insuring the new one. I said yes making it very clear that the other car was just a long term hire and I wasn't insuring it or the owner of it. They said that's fine and I asked them to make a note of it on the quote. When I then rang a day or so later, I mentioned what had been said, the person on the other end spoke to their manager and I got an outbound discount of about £40....nice.

Stupid thing is, I then had to change the registration plate on the insurance and the policy start date, but they wanted £14 admin fee (to cover paperwork and such) to do it. I pointed out that I was still in the 14 day cooling off period and if they were going to charge me £14 to print 2 pieces of paper and post them to me, I was simply going to cancel and then get requoted during the same call. Woman said they'd still charge me £14. So i cancelled, got requoted and got all my changes done for the previous cheap price. Barking I tell you.

Dangerous game.

A No Claims Certificate is only valid on one car.

I.e. if you have 2 cars, you have 2 separate No Claims policies, maybe one with 10 years, and one with 2 years. If you buy a 3rd car you start again at 0 years on the new car, unless you sell one of the other cars in which case you can transfer the NCB from that car.

I would advise talking to someone senior, I did and got my wife's Porsche Cayenne dropped from £890 - £645. just for asking them to look at the price as it was expensive...

My advise don't be afraid to ask for a deal from someone senior...they often will do it.

Good Luck

Well i have paid for it up front now - so when they ask for no claims proof ill use the polo instead then ...basically this is bks and another reason to strype up the customer ..if i did this in my gaem id have no customers ...

Polo has 3 yrs i think i used 6 yrs no claims proof from chubb - if they raise it too much ill go elsewhere and get my monery back

Seems ridiculous to insure a 35k RR for 800 and have to pay close to 700 for a 5k mini ..theft - wheres the FSA in this one - stop banker bashing and concentrate on this daylight robbery
