What to get next?

Calling all past and present Aston Owners, where did you or will you go from here?

Have asked simialr questions on PH and on other forums but I thought I'd ask here to get direct experiences.

I'm selling my V8V after 4 years of ownership, and I've had a DB9. I fancy a change from the Marque so what should I get, the shortlist is as follows and is a bit random:

R8 V8
Nissan GTR
Porsche (Turbo or GT3)

It will be a daily driver

I will expand my reasoning later

Am pretty sure I'll end up back at Ferrari when the time comes to trade the Aston in though. 599 probably.

It's all personal taste, of course, but you'd swap one of the best-looking and tactile cars on the planet for one of those 3 boring and/or ugly cars?! You know you'll regret it!

While the gtr and turbo are awesome cars, there is no sense of occasion about them. Astons have class, ferrari's and lambo's have the drama.

Just depends on what your after in your next car.

There's no where to go as a daily diver car. You've reach the top. The only better way to get to work is a helicopter.

As my DB7 edges toward the door, we've just bought a C4S Cab for the summer (other half rejected the "new" Vantage roadster preventing me from the utter lunacy of briefly having three Astons) and I'm thinking about a Range Rover for the Dogs/Children/Trips to the tip: Middle age casts its dark shadow. Hey ho, still got an old Vantage Volante to try and bankrupt me.

It always seems to me though that only three brands are really "school boy/Top Trumps" exciting:
Aston/Ferrari/Lamborghini

Each brand makes a subtly different statement:
Aston: My name is Bond, long-dated bond.
Ferrari: I drive my best chat up line, but it rarely works.
Lamborghini: I am mad, I play centre-half, or both.

Take a look at the Maserati Gran Turismo coup V8 you def wont see as many of these as you will 911s. Nissan GTR great car but lacks the class, I was in that situation wasnt sure what to buy? i looked at the v8 vantage so sexy but not really a drivers car for me, i knew i would get bored not saying there boring but i like to scare myself and the vantage didnt do that for me, The maserati also very sexy and that was my choice based on the fact they are very good car and a little fewer around than the V8. After all that i went completely bonkers and bought a noble M400 and kept my audi conv as my every day car and the noble when i pick it up will no doubt scare me stupid. Anyway good luck with ur hunting

I just sold the V8VR (which was fantastic!!) and initially wanted a 996 Turbo or GT3, but on the advice of a few friends I went for a drive in a 997 C2S and was blown away by its ability, understated beauty, simplicity of driving and overall usefulness everyday. I love it.


Athought I have started looking at the 997 GT3 section on the classifieds on a daily basis already


Test drive them all and your heart shall make the decision for you!!

These are the cars i've considered and driven, I've never taken this long to buy a new car before so thats a testament to Aston.

To the V12 Vantage.

It is an easy car to drive and very controllable so your concern with it being too fast for the road is unfounded. As you know with the amv8 it is a very usable car with good space and practicality only with a bit more sting that the amv8 and nicely understated. With the tyres you're right, that they need a bit of respect when cold but not really a massive issue either. I opted for a set of Pirelli Sottozeros to take me through the winter months and they were excellent. If you're happy with your amv8 you'll be ecstatic with a V12 Vantage.

My comment about it being too fast is related to the fact that by the time it's singing in 3rd gear you're doing silly speeds, I just tend to think most modern performance cars cannot be exploited on the public road and I don't have time to do track days. They're just to capable. I'm certainly not ruling it out (or the DBS) I just fancied a year away from the brand to see what is was like.
I don't need 4 seat (yet) but a modicum(SP) of practicality is a must and the Astons tick all the right boxes.

So my daily driver has a lot of boxes to tick. I know porsche is an option but they don't sound great and the interiors are not really to my taste but I've yet to drive either the Turbo or the GT3. They're on my shortlist.

Other thoughts, trying to come up with some variety:

• Alfa 8C? (I'd be tempted)
• Farbio GTS? (I'd like it for the rareity)
• McMerc SLR? (I wouldn't)
• Aero 8 / Aeromax (definitely different)

What's the budget? Struggling to know what price to think of options at?

Instant choice for me would be the Wiesmann, if you can deal with any issues around LHD/servicing. Looks like they're trying to make a UK entry, though - Stockport Lamborghini have had a couple in + all the literature...

I have the same situ and pretty much the same thinking. Tried a 430 Scud, DBS, V12V and really the speed I am going in one of those things when giving them a real workout is throw away the key time (if I were to get off my private road), also on a country road non of them could shake a hard driven 4.3, unless it was very straight, and unless the driver did not care about prison or death. On track they would be fantastic I am sure, but I am not someone that needs to be the quickest on a track day, I just need to be having fun, (my most memorable trackday was in the wifes old MX5). My V8 is now 4 years old and I have a major itch to get something new, this is the longest I have ever had a car. But the only thing that really make sense is a 4.7 Manual Convertible, but I cannot bring myself to spend £60k plus my car to get a car that is just a little bit better.
