:sob: iTunes is never simple is it?

I just want to put a movie on my iPhone. I've imported the movie into iTunes. It's right there in the "Video" tab. But when I tick "Sync Video" I get "The iPhone is already linked with another library. Doing this will erase the iPhone". Why, God, why?

Manual transfer it was how i had to do it.

Because iTunes is arse of the first water. Any of the freeware or shareware alternatives off the net would be preferable.

Was the phone set up using that instance of iTunes? If not, then it will need to re-sync, or you could add the movie to the iTunes you originally synced with.

Yes it was. Re-sync has sorted it but Apple have really got this software wrong IMHO.

I don't understand quite what the issue is. You have ripped a movie (I presume this is right), and it is sat in your iTunes window, quite happily?

Any chance you could take a screen grab of what you are trying to do, and the outcome?
Is the movie one that was bought on iTunes?
Could you simply need to authorise the computer to use the other account?
Have you used another iTunes account at all?
Does everything else sync without issue?

Yes, that's right, but it didn't sync to the iPhone. So I check the box under the Movies tab "Sync Movies" and up pops this message:



So anyway I let it do what it wanted and it has happily erased 20Gb from the phone and then loaded on the same 20Gb plus one episode of Phoenix Nights.

I can replicate it again by checking "manually manage music and videos". I just don't understand how it thinks the library is somehow completely different because I add a movie.

And now it's doing it again. Just because I checked "manually sync" and then unchecked it again, it insists on completely wiping the phone and starting again. I don't particularly care, but WTF?!

Have you done anything on another computer, or updated the iTunes software on the PC since your last sync? It will just wipe it, and replace with what is on your iTunes, but the only reason it would do this was if you had recently done an update.

Have you tried a reboot on the iPhone?

I'm not overly familiar with the PC version of iTunes, so things may be slightly different.

No, nothing like that. Anyway it seems happy enough.

Next problem - I bought a track on iTunes which is happily on my iPhone but won't sync (even manually using CopyTransManager) onto my iPod. It's MINE God damn it!

Why can't they make it simpler to add just one song/podcast to your phone? It always ends up taking ages and ages and then it's too easy to just erase loads of other stuff.

What other software can you use easily with the iphone?

You can add just one song, or just one podcast to your iphone. Why do you think it is difficult? How are you erasing stuff so easily?

I've never had an issue in all these years. Sometimes some of the problems just bemuse me. Like the 'adding a single song or podcast', and 'erased songs'... I don;t know how they manage to erase stuff, but even when you press delete, it asks you again, if you want to remove from library, OR remove the file entirely to the trash. I find it very odd sometimes.

Most software these days has unintended "features". If the developers are not told about them they will not get fixed.

I'm with you. I've been using iTunes for the last 5 years and I've never lost a file, accidentally deleted a file, had trouble importing media or anything! Heck, I've even managed to move my library between about 3 HDDs and 2 PCs without losing a single thing and not downloading any 3rd party application!
