Oil pressure too high??

My 350i has the VDO oil pressure guage labeled 1 to 5. When the ignition key is turned on it shoots to just below 1. It sits at 4 on idle and goes to 5 + when revved up. I have checked the oild level and it is slightly high on the dip stick (1/4") any ideas chaps?

Sounds like the sender is off. They can get tired and the reading goes astray. You might find that cleaning the connectors and checking the wiring helps but if not replace the sender - they were not cheap at 75 quid though last time I looked.

Be careful tighening up the new one if there's a brass union as they are a bit fragile and easily snapped off.

In it down drivers side set back a little just above oil pump?
