Just waiting for them to announce that lighters and ash trays are illegal and that they should be decommisioned or a car will fail its MOT.......

I wrote that as a joke...but the more i think about it the more it scares me it could come true

I don't like the infringement of civil liberty implied, but on the other hand if smoking was stopped (how can they police it?) I suppose at least I'd never again have to take avoiding action for an oncoming vehicle, driven by some twonk driving with a fag between first and index fingers, more intent on balancing an inch and a half of ash than on steering their car properly.

As far as I can see, even if they do 'ban' it, this will be as ineffective as banning the use of handheld 'phones; i.e. not at all.

Do want you want in your own car, but keep it in your own car!

Ffs don't treat the world like it's an ashtray and flick butts out of the window at speed into other cars. Also, in traffic inhale your own smoke instead of puffing out of the window into us poor sods behind.

and breathe smile

What about smoking in the home?

Kids are being exposed to smoke in their own homes! Won't someone think of the children? Ban it, nanny, ban it!

I am fairly convinced that in time, say another ten years, they will outlaw tobacco.

As a smoker, even I'll say that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.

What I wouldn't recommend, though, is hundreds of thousands of smokers driving around gagging for a smoke... Although, the twice daily M25 5mph grind might be livened up a bit as fisticuffs erupts at the slightest thing.

As an agency lorryist, about a year ago or so i climbed into an artic that had half a dozen fag burns in the seat, all in the bk area.

If using mobiles makes people explode, god knows what having a burning ember next to your nuts when at the wheel of a 40 tonner does.

(Actually smoking in trucks has been banned pretty much).

It's not just cars

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8583551.stm

The BBC say................

But it argues that the only way to make it practically enforceable would be to introduce it as a blanket ban on all private vehicles - regardless of their passengers, as exemptions would prove too complex.

In addition, it wants to see smoking banned in places frequented by children, such as parks and outdoor swimming pools - and exclusion zones outside school gates.

PARKS!!

Now I'm not a smoker, but if someone is banned from smoking in a park because there is children playing 200 yards away, then we're all in trouble.

I wonder if they would be able to ban smoking in an open topped car?

The hugely amusing thing is that the people who come up with this legislation are getting paid by us to work for us.

Chip chip chip, away goes the freedom. The very nature of the people in the UK means that we will do nothing, not even until we are in the most ridiculous Orwellian state.

Perhaps it might be a better idea if we just jumped straight into the EUSSR, they have more freedom over there. scratchchin

We have the nerve to point fault at North Korea and China. It makes me want to take a Durian on a train rolleyes

Edit:- Why don't we just ban smoking? Ban tobacco?

Oh, that's right ££££££££££££££

The best place for smoking is a place where only adults go and you can be served alcohol. Oh hang on a minute, that's a pub, and the government banned it. What a surprise that more people are smoking either in their cars or in the home.

Allow people to smoke in pubs and pubs will stop closing down. Create a smoking room if they have to. People will then smoke less at home and in their cars. Simple.

Is smoking already banned in company cars, due to them being considered part of the workplace?

as someone whos dad smoked in the car when i was a kid... me and my sister hated it and kicked up a right fuss... a few years later we both started smoking at school with the 'hard' fked up kids. When my dad found out we smoked - he gave up! sister and I still smoke.

I think parents should be helped to give up smoking and certainly told not to smoke around their kids, not only for health benefits but for economic benefits - what parent could piss money away on fags and not be saving it for their childs future?

On them applying a law to it.... they can fk right off and die

In fact I will puff my e-cig evertime I see someone who looks annoyed

I am just lost at the proposition of it all.

If it has become such a problem then fair enough, Ban Tobacco, Oh wait, the main source of the NHS?

I think most parents are savvy enough not to smoke with children around. What about banning smoking in houses, think of the children!

The most annoying thing about this is I don't even have kids. May I suggest that the government pay for my car, then they can dictate what I can or cannot do in it.

Yeah, that sounds fair enough. You pay for my car and I'll stop smoking in it.

Mines a gallardo ta.

There is something VERY wrong here. The simple truth is there has never been fewer people smoking, and there has never been more cases of asthma and other 'smoking related' diseases.

The Royal College of Physicians need to get their collective fingers out of their collective aholes and work out why.

Lazy journalism, and lazy medical research are both a massive convenient 'scapegoat related' pile of b0llocks.

From what I heard this morning, it's not just cars, it seems that pressure groups (The groups the government pander to, no matter how spurious or one sided the evidence they give is – tobacco presentation in shops being a prime example) want a ban on smoking in private family homes that have children. Then, of course, they’ll need more surveillance departments with freedom killing powers to fine the nasty parents, should they get found out.

Imagine - 10 years time, no drink, no smoke, no confectionary, just sit at home attached to the intravenous drip of state sponsored TV telling you how great you have it.

Happy times!

they probably want us all on heroin or some pharma drugs. They ignored scientific fact about cannabis so why are we worried they will take any fashion advice from a doctor
