...Darling has also decided to freeze all income tax
bands, which will lead people to pay more tax on
their earnings.
The tactic is a classic “stealth tax” and will be far
larger than previously attempted. Personal
allowances were last frozen almost a decade ago.
Every higher-rate taxpayer earning more than
£43,875 will pay an additional £489 in tax as a
result of the move, and 75,000 more people will
pay this higher-rate tax for the first time.

Fiscal drag was one of Brown's favorite tactics, so it is no surprise that Darling uses it too. I wonder how much of the budget Darling has actually written, and how much was dictated by Brown.

Employ tons of idiots with Final Salary Pensions and then wonder why the IT spend hasnt been enough, despite a firm 'quote' saying they only need 3 people and to spend £78 on the systems behind it....

Another 32,112 votes for these idiots!

Don't quote me on this as i may be wrong, and i defer to the greater knowledge of PH, but i think some one can be classed as a FTB if they have not held a mortgage in the past 3 years. Any time less than that and you are considered as a "previous borrower with lender x", unless obviously they haven't actually ever had a mortgage.

if you want one reason to vote these idiots out, they made the tax system so damn complex you end up paying more tax but you also need to pay a team of accountants to do your accounts......my boss says he used to do his own accounts until fat brown was made chanceller....

tax shouldnt be taxing, isnt that what the scumbag bbc women in the adverts says....

They usually keep a few things back, and they will most definitely hide the more unpopular bits deep in the wording of the document in the hope that we don't notice.

I wonder if you'd qualify as a FTB if it was a joint purchase and one of the couple hadn't held a mortgage before idea
