if it breaths better then it needs more fuel to match the extra air.
Also it effects the load the ecu sees.. therefore it runs lower load in the ignition and fuelling table.. so not only is it leaner as it breathes better but also leaner as the ecu is injecting less fuel and is running more ignition advance as the ecu believes the load is lower than it is.
