Problems with Realtec Audio Drivers

Short story, I have a Sony Vaio W-series netbook with Realtec HD audio drivers runing the sound show. I tried to play a ripped DVD and it sounds like the vocals are in a bucket. Music from the same file at the same time comes out fine. I've tried reinstalling the drivers and even removing the driver (W7 just puts them back) but still no joy.

Any advice before I go back to the Sony Centre?

I've found the built in W7 drivers sound a lot better than the Realtek ones.

You can remove the Realtek ones fully using a program called Driver Sweeper - http://www.phyxion.net/

+1 or try using Sony own

Had same problem. When I changed driver to motherboards (gigabyte) version then problems went away.

Yep,those are the ones I think. To be fair, Realtek did say to remove their drivers, reboot and the W7 drivers should step in, but I found that on reboot the Realtek drivers were back with a vengeance.

I'll try this Driver Sweeper item. I assume that the W7 drivers will operate on reboot? I cannot see any drivers listed other than the Realtek ones.

Daft thing is that the same movie plays fine on my wifes TT-model Vaio, but that is a different beast to my lowly netbook.

Right, I've applied the Driver Sweeper and the vocals appear to be a better level relative to the other audio components. However, there is a bit of a lag between the movie and the audio. Could this be down to the codec or conversion option I took when ripping the DVD?
