Just had 3 quotes to replace my old boiler with a combi.

2 of the quotes came in just over £2.5k - using a Worcester Bosch 30CDI.

The other quote came in at £1.6k, using a Remeha Avanta 28c.

The two Worcester Bosch chaps didn't know anything about Remeha, however a quick Google search reveals they're well regarded.

Thing is, there's a £1k difference between these quotes, and I know the Remeha isn't that much cheaper!

Is going for the cheaper quote a false economy? Checking the details, it seems to cover everything we needed and is definitely Gas Safe registered.

Ferg says Remeha are very good, and that's good enough for me.

I can't help thinking that Worcester Bosch are buying their market position somehow, and then cashing in on it. Great narketing but is the product equally good?

What warranty is being offered?

I have just had a Worcester Greenstar 40CDi conventional boiler (which is a rebadged something-or-other) installed and it comes with a 6 year warranty.

The Bosch installer does 25+ installs a year and is therefore able to offer the same 5 year warranty as the Remeha.

To be honest the difference between the boilers I can contend with, however I'm of the opinion that youu (usually) get what you pay for, therefore it's the £1000 difference between the quotes that is confusing me a little!

If the going rate is £2500(seems about right) why can plumber #3 only command £1600?

Does the cheapest quote include a powerflush?

Yes, apparently so. By my sums I'm thinking approx £1000 for the boiler, timer, wireless thermostat, new flue and radiator valves. Going rate for a powerflush seem to be £300, by the time you've run the 22mm pipe and made good around where the old flue was.... Seems labour is about zero!

Can't be right can it, or am I being too cautious?
