Am I the only one that thinks this car is an absolute abhoration? Side on it look like a mk1 tt, from the front it looks like a 307/207, just ghastly.
Its natural rival Is obviously the Audi but being front wheel drive, less powerful, uglier and with a cheaper interior who is going to buy this abomination? A fwd coupe doesn't appeal to petrolheads, ugly cars don't appeal to the tt crowd. Why are peugot making this thing? It's not even cheap, the only thing that could save it (pinch a few hyundai coupe sales)

I saw it at Frankfurt and thought it looked quite good. Not "I'd drive it" good, but good.

I'll give it a chance before I judge it, Peugeot have been so roundly slated by the motoring press and enthusiasts alike for years, it can't all (I hope) have fallen on deaf ears.

Peugeots best road cars were almost all front wheel drive so I live in hope that this will be a return to form for them. If it isn't however I think I'll just give up on what was once one of my favourite brand of cars. As it is I find it hard to forgive them for the blob that is the 3008

The original TT was fwd though? Still is? Aren't most sales fwd?

Who will buy it? Women and people who can't afford a TT which when specced with "necessary" options is bloody expensive.

Looks? Well the 206CC was a best seller so being slug-ugly did that no harm.

I think it looks good. The few road tests so far have been positive. I think it's designed to be a French sports coupe - not the out and out fastest, but comfortable and good to drive for those who don't want to spend every journey on the limit. I reckon it's aimed at a slightly more mature market than the TT - ie not estate agents and aspirational young sales managers. Given that prices start at £20k and they are only aiming to sell 17,000 a year in the whole of Europe, I reckon it will do well.

The double bubble rear window is a really beautiful design element though. Outstanding effort in my opinion.

Mk1 TT was only available with Haldex Quattro for teh first few years. Then they introduced the basic FWD version, which was never as popular as the 4WD anyway.

I quite like the look of the RCZ, but it's not really as special as it should be. No major selling point: performance, economy, looks, value, practicality... it doesn't win any of these competitions. I wish Peugeot the best with it all the same.

In photos I agree with the OP - one of the ugliest production cars I have seen recently (Nissan Juke probably pips it though). Seems the designers have stuffed in as many different design cues as they could.

Might be different in the metal though.

I think from the from wheels back its a stunning design.

It's main problem is that it has the awful generic 307 front end.

Given how the 5008 front end looks, and the 508 concept, i'd imagine there'll be a hasty facelift in a few years to bring it in line, and that'll look great.

The 508 concept:

I think it looks good - much better than Peugeots of recent years (although I admit that's not saying much) and like the Audi TT but I think better!.....will wait to see the finished on the road product before making final judgement.

yes The 150bhp FWD version wasn't introduced till a good few years later.

The Mk2 has a FWD version from the outset.

The only negatives I can see is the massive badge on the front - its size..its massive!..that and the general 'gob' aesthetic...oh and poorer quality materials than the competition, so potential for squeaks and build quality issues... Other than , there is little to take offence at IMO.
Significanlty undercuts the TT price, apparently rides better...

As for all this "it looks like a TT"
Saddens me that the people who say "petrolheads won't buy this" also seem to be the same 'petrolheads' that can't tell their arse from their elbow...yes yes yes we can all see a similarity but ANYONE on here who doesn't immediatley see that this is not a TT needs to re-think their passion for cars because it clearly isn't as deep or as well held as they thought...

No-one seems to think that a 200BHP Mini is anything other than great driver's car...despite the image/estate agents etc... whilst not in the same market sector, there is no reason to think this will not drive very well in that format.

I thought it started at c.£20k ? Scirocco money, you can have looks/performance and reliability then...
Each to his own, to my eye the RCZ is leagues ahead of the Scirocco in terms of looks.

+1 much better in the metal than op pictures two.
I do think Peugeot are overdoing it recently tough (207,308,...)

Much better looking than the Mk1 TT imo!

I think the RCZ looks much better than the TT the TT to me is rather bland (the Mk1 version) at least the RCZ has some charactor with the larger arches etc.

I hope it does well so they think about moving on and making more interesting stuff.

Good to drive too, according to R.Bremner "But no doubt about it, this is a highly entertaining driver's car that beats the Audi TT."

In my view the front looks horrific, the rest looks far too much like a TT rip off (with exception of the window) its based on a 308 which in my experience wasnt exactly interesting to drive but worst of all its got a pug badge on it and for me i could never justify spending £20k on a Pugeot.

I think the biggest issue will be the badge snobs who like to be able to say they own a Audi/Merc/BMW coupe not a Pugeot so regardless if it does handle better than a TT it will only be bought if if Pug do one of those cheap finance deals or insurance deals to entice people in. having said that Autocar seemed to give it a decent review when compared to the Roco and TT.

am i right to in thinking the scrappage scheme is ending soon to and from what a contact of mine at a Pug dealer has told me the scrappage scheme is the main reason they are still in business.
