Anyone know of a source for the thinner (inner) washers that fit between the donut bushes and the chassis? These washers have a small lip around the hole and are needed to centralise the tie-rod within the chassis (so I'm told). Tried TVR Car Parts, but the parts are discontinued !

Anyone know the Ford part number (assuming they are not TVR specials ?

Anyone have the dimensions of one or a spare one I could borrow to get some made up ?

TIA ...

Thanks ... have now .. but same story frown
Seems there are a few people waiting for them. Though they are hopeful that Ford are in the process of remanufacturing a batch, so watch their website for news.

The search goes on ....

Don't any of the aftermarket poly bush suppliers supply them with the bushes themselves?

I will check later when I get home.

Couldn't get hold of them today (ansaphone), but as they only list one washer, my guess is that it will be the outer 'domed' washer, which is more readily available.

Still no luck in sourcing some washers.

I've been experimenting with various bits of tubing and think I could make a type of 'spacer' to fit into the chassis hole to protect the inner 'lips' of the poly bushes, along with a couple of large penny washers.

But now I'm wondering what exactly is the purpose of the inner washers ?

Can anyone enlighten me ?

TIA

I think the washers are to position (centralise) the old type of foam bush and keeping it in the proper shape when put under tension (installation and on the road). Reused them when installing poly ones on the wedge.

Thanks ... that's my conculsion too. As my washers are completely rusted away, I can't reuse them. But I'm not sure they are that critical anyway with poly bushes.

When refitting, how tight do I make the large (18mm) locknut on the end of the tie bar ? ie. under how much compression do the bushes need ?

TIA

35-40 ft lbs. according to the manual. It also recommends having the wheel alignmen checked after adjusting the caster.

When finally tightening up the locknut, should the weight be back on the wheels ?

Not according to the book - other things are specified to be tightened at mid-laden, but not these.

The TVR workshop manual covering the front suspension for the 280/350 from '86 - which they cribbed from FoMoCo.
