Help with Excel XP

Im having two problems with Excel XP on my office computer which i know can be achived as they work on the other office computers, but i cant find where the settings are etc to change them.
The first thing i want to do is add a file location to my places when your in the open pain, but it wont let me with any folders i try to add??
Second one is again in the open pain when i start typing a name of a file on the other computers it normally starts searching for anything with that in it, but this computer requires me to type the exact file name in before i can open it, its annoying as i have file references which are there to make it easier to open the files,
Any ideas much appreciated
