Extractor fan electrics
Discussion
Installing an extractor fan in the bathroom and a question about electrics. Usual thing is to connect to a light, so that it comes on when the light is turned on. To save the noise ( I get up at early am), I was thinking of connecting it to the shower switch, so it only comes on when the shower is used.
I don't see a problem, but life is not usually that easy!

Can be done but complicated, there are other methods I'd advise first.
Firstly, installed properly by someone who knows what they're doing extractor fans are normally fairly quiet. Poor installs, such as on a ceiling or false wall, amplify noise.
Consider a good extractor fan, Airflow "icon" is quieter than normal, the airflow "quietair" is just about silent.
Another option is a fan with a pullcord independent of lighting, although you're relying on people to use it, or one controlled by a built in humidistat, which should kick in when the room steams up.
Another option, if you have downlights with a couple over the shower, is to split the lighting into two circuits with the fan on the showerlights.
BTW installing a fan to a bathroom is notifiable work.
