My business is reasonably unusual and quirky and as well as being free publicity for me, reckon an article on it would make quite a good filler piece in local newspapers and radio stations. No problem writing a press release or similar, but how do I go about approaching the papers with them?

Fire them off to the editor, a specific journo, something else? Any thoughts much appreciated.

Where are you in the country?

Normally, just email to 'newsdesk@' or give them a call.

Newspapers are always crying out for copy, there's a good chance they'll just print your 'story' verbatim.

Not sure if you already know this, but send the story with a good picture or two. Proper, professional pictures will almost definitely get used. A good photographer will charge around £100 - £200 for this, it's a couple of hours work. Avoid 'big cheque' and 'sad stolen bicycle' pictures (you know what I mean!), they won't be used.

We used to fairly easily get 2-page spreads in papers like the Western Mail, etc. this way.

HTH.

Contact the business section of the papers and have a chat with the Editor or Senior Reporter, that's what we did and we had quite good results. Good Luck! smile
