Which way around M25 do I go on Saturday night 11.30pm ish? Do I go above or below London? I'm traveling from Weymouth to Ipswich. Many Thanks, Ferb.

I doubt it would make a great deal of difference at that time of night, go with the shortest.

difference north/south from m3 to a12 junction is 0.4miles (according to GoogleMaps anyway) North being the shortest. However, the North has the most roadworks at the moment so will be 40-50mph specs. Im i right in thinking the south M25 has no roadworks at all?

South means using dartford tolls, but if its 22-6 hes going he will miss those...

I'd say south too. I used to more or less commute from Devon to Chelmsford and that's the route I used.

The north/west section always seems to be more congested, even now the south/east side has its own roadworkds too.

I'd be tempted with a direct line though London just to get off motorways. Won't save any time or fuel but it'd add variety.

Quite a cool idea, but I reckon you'd need to know where you're going to waft through the nice bits, rather than just skirting the suburbs. Even at half eleven you could get hold ups and either way it will be a lot slower than the M25. It'll require a lot more attention too - there are junctions every couple of hundred yards in London, plus erant cycle couriers, drunk revellers and insane drivers to contend with. With the M25 at night the only real tasks are picking your favourite tunes on the stereo and trying to stay awake.

Thanks for replies guys thumbup I'll go south driving
As for going through London, no chance wink That would be like driving here in Guernsey with max speed limit of 35mph. My ute has not been in 6th gear since last May.
Music all sorted, top gear and cruise control set smile then munching on sweets and lots of bad singing laugh

Nah, I find it far more amusing to go past the lycra stick insect brigade wearing scruffy old clothes and trainers which are disintegrating!

To be fair I'm only in the suburbs and after a trip into central one rush hour I'm relieved to say my riding style is a lot more conservative than the London regulars. I have too much to live for!

Why not go A34, A43, M1 and then across?
