Money program on Toyota

who is that bloody old fart of a woman with such hatred for toyota? Sounds like she lost someone in Pearl Harbour
Now that would explain it. Not one of her claims was justifiable. Spoiled what was already a pretty flaky programme (nice idea but somewhat lacking in facts).TrevorH said:
I started to watch but quickly got bored. Did they actually question the standard of the drivers involved in the incidents?
Sort of. They said that Toyota papers presented to Congress show that floor mat and driver standards can only explain a small number of the accidents that have occured.Am I being really dumb, but why not just turn the ignition off and coast down to a crawl? Surely that combined with the handbrake would be a better bet than rushing into a busy intersection at 80mph.
The problem is that people don't know how toy control their car anymore. They will happily add 'remote key' jobbies, but seemingly refuse to actually read the instructions that go with it. The recent case in California, where some white haired numpty was on a nice jolly on the freeway, and blamed his prisu for accelerating is obviously one of these tools. Not only did he fake, but even if he DID experience it, this vid shows how you can sort it out, no bother.

They were caught with their corporate pants down. That memo which states their reason for the 'mat recall' i.e. it's cheaper than sorting out the real problem (pedal assembly, electronics) was almost Pinto'esque (as in the Ford). I suppose the difference is that their senior management seem to want to sort this out, though as quietly as possible. I thought the programme was quite balanced - grumpy old woman versus the Texan guy who loves Toyota.

What about the steering lock?I can only assume it is blind panic that prevents people from acting rationally. It must be pretty terrifying feeling that much out of control.
