While the head is off, what else??

So, the car is in the garage in bits, the head is off to be skimmed and pressure tested. New shiny manifolds on their way, but is there anything else I can do while the head is off???

from my recent experience I would change the timing back to std (the Gt03 etc are one tooth out on exhaust cam to move power lower down) and fit mountune valve springs...

the original valve springs will stop you holding high boost at higher rpm's... worth 20bhp!

Tux did his and the car held boost and rev'd to death, was very impressive.

TuxMan, very interested in doing this (or at least getting someone else to do it for me) as the already large bill is mounting, what sort of cost/work is involved?? My thinking is if I'm going to spend money, just as well try to get it right and once work is done it will be off to Yelloeshed for a remap.

if your sending it to yellowshed, id recomend giving him a call to discuss spec/mods etc... but valve springs are around £300 from mountune and simple to fit if the head is off.

piper (and ford) can supply the bits you need

the porting can be done by quite a few places, where do you live ?

Devon, its with the S.W Noble dealers, they are fitting the valves etc, but haven't mentioned porting.

with regards to porting ,when you take the valves out there is a bad lip behind the valve seat ,pm me if you need more info.

Think so !! hence the issues with the valve springs !!

Stronger valve springs, I did that, Mountune.

Beleive me, it makes a massive difference and you can rev to 8k.

All models are standard even M400. We are going for stronger valve spring from Mountune and new valve stem seals from Ford. To get the heads ported correctly (a fine science) was going to be too costly (Vulkan £700 per head)for the power gains I would see running around the 400 bhp mark.

TuxMan or anyone else who has fitted the proalloy intercooler, (the next thing on my list when I get my car back) did you need to replace the connecting hoses and if so where did you get them????

The intercooler comes with inlet hoses, hard pipe & clips. You just need to cut the outlet hose to fit.
