Brake balance - last job before IVA

Ok, my very last job before IVA is to set and immobilise balance bar...
21mm thread exposed at the right hand side I recall... can anyone tell me if that's when viewed from rear? or top? - taking account of curvature of the clevis (if that makes sense)... a pic would help, along with an IVA acceptable method to prevent adjustment, or indication where a little "weld" has been placed..

You will need the lock nut.
Then my understanding is that the nut must be welded to the shaft then a line of weld run along the remainder of the thread.
I would like to hear if anyone has gotten through with less than this.
Personally I think this could change the properties of the shaft and it may not be as strong.

Ouch!
If true (and you are very probably right) - That totally destroys the idea of the adjuster in the first place - seem a bit heavy-handed, and then it demands that the builder will have to scrap the fittings after IVA, and go buy more, which rather defeats the object of the exercise I would say?
I would understand the idea of securing the position with say a clevis or locknut to prevent messing with the setting inadvertantly or easily, but surely with such a car it is imperative to be able to make changes needed for say, change of brakes, conditions, change in other things!
Seems red-tape has got in the way of logic/common sense...again?

"Bias bars and other mechanical adjusting devices fitted to twin master cylinders must have no means of adjustment. However they will be deemed acceptable if the all nuts etc are fully welded to their relative threads and all the threads originally intended to provide adjustment are welded along their length i.e. permanently rendering them un-adjustable
Maybe you can find an IVA tester who will take a bung to turn a blind eye ? .... alternatively you can re-fit an adjustable bar after the IVA - but if the tester sticks to the rules it will fail if it's not welded.

think I'll go for a spot of weld on each clevis to make it non adjustable - certainly not intending to run a weld along the entire threaded section. Tester at my local station is pretty reasonable (in my SVA experiences of the past) so we'll see how it goes.

I emailed the factory regarding this problem and Richard is happy for me to share his reply is as follows
"So not to destroy the whole bias assembly you can either place two nuts together to cover the entire thread with the end nut welded, or slide a piece of tube over the the thread and weld in place. If you don't feel too confident to do this or don't have a welder, we will happily carry out this modification free of charge at the factory, simply post your pedal back to us prior to IVA and we will return it within 48 hours.
The exact recommended bias bar setting for IVA and for road use afterwards is 21mm of exposed thread on the right hand side of the pedal (which relates to the front master cylinder)"
