For anyone living, or passing through North Kent, this Sunday. Two landmarks will be biting the dust at 11am on Sunday 28/3/10. The chimneys on the South side of the Thames, in Northfleet, just down from the QE2 bridge, will be blasted to kingdom come to make way for new housing.

Indeed. I was looking for a good cycling destination for Sunday morning...

Where would be a good place to watch from?

In between the two towers, that way you won't miss anything.

Stand on top of one of them. You'll really feel like you're part of the action then. A bit like 3D in cinemas.

An article I read suggested Northfleet high street but wonder if there is an option from the other side of the water ? (not that I am trying to save £1.50 or anything)

GOod heads-up CLiff.
Can you actually see it happen?
Recommend a good vantage point as I, too, think it is worth a trip?

That'll be Tilbury Docks, can't get on without ID.

Not really all that familiar with the area just yet, but there are a few hills nearby they are fully visible from. There is a main road passing close and you can even seee the chimneys as far away as the A2.

The chimneys are on the site of the old Blue Circle cement works, a search might throw more info up. Don't really know the area well.

Looking at Google Earth I reckon parking in the Eurotunnel car park and walking to the suggested viewing point of Northfleet high street is not a bad plan.

I reckon the best place to see ti from would actually be the Dartford Bridge...... but you can't really park on that.

If anyof you take a decent car to Northfleet for fks sake be careful where you park.
