E60 525d & 530d owners - mpg question
Discussion
The wife has a pre LCI 530d M Sport - mpg average mostly around town is 29-32mpg on a nice motorway run we've seen 38-40mpg.
The 530d was in for some warranty work and we were given an LCI updated 525d the same routes gave an average of 34-38mpg around town and the motorway run did 42mpg.
The 530d feels much more refined though and you can't really tell its a diesel from the inside whereas the 525d had a diesel vibration on the accelerator pedel - its a proper diesel!
The 535d I owned for 3 years was a seperate story though - what a bloody car but much less MPG on that 22-24mpg around town and 30-32 on motorways.

I have a 2005 pre LCI 525d which my wife drives during the week and it's returning around 31-32.5 mpg around town, between 40 and 42 on the motorway. I remember when reading in the brochure when I was buying it and I'm sure it said that the 530 was slightly more economical than the 525d but only by a around 1 mpg but obviously nobody ever get's near the quoted mpg figures any way.

Surprised by those figures - my pre LCI 535d has averaged 32.4 MPG over 60k miles - get around 26-28 in urban driving but closer to 38-40 at 'lane 3 speeds' on the motorway.HTH
Even my Porsche gets 30 MPG on a motorway.

My pre LCI 535d did 31-32mpg on average, 22 mpg round town, and 37mpg on very long runs.
My LCI 535d did 36-37mpg, 28mpg round town and 42mpg on very long runs.
LCI is Life Cycle Impulse. Catchy.
I think the LCI models became available early 2007 - around February/March if I remember correctly but others will know for sure.
Exterior changes were pretty subtle - lights and bumpers were tweaked. Casual observers would never know. Inside the quickest way to tell if you are unsure (for Autos) is to check the gearstick - LCI models have the newer joystick type whereas pre LCI cars have a more traditional auto stick. There were other changes such as programmable buttons for iDrive shortcuts but the most significant changes were under the bonnet - basically the LCI models are more efficient and therefore return better MPG and emit lower emissions.

I think they had a build date of 24th March 2007 onwards. Its worth noting that quite a few pre LCI cars were registered after that date, so dont assume its an LCI if it was registered say, May 2007. The LCI cars had a power increase from 272BHP to 286BHP too. Also rear suspension was revised which helped handling and they got the alloy block engine from the 335d.I think the LCI models became available early 2007 - around February/March if I remember correctly but others will know for sure.
