Paypal scam - how does it work?
Discussion
I advertised a sale of a mobile phone online for £240. I have had to replies back offering me approx £90 for it.
Both of them are in broken English with a tale of someone buying it for someone else abroad etc - usual story. They want me to accept paypal payment and send the item.
Obviously a scam. But how does it work.
If I accept the payment and take it into my bank can Paypal take the money back?
I presume if I leave the money in my Paypal account it will get taken back because Paypal will return it to the original account holde.r
Are these peopel hacking other peoples PP accounts, or using stolen Credit cards?

They will receive the phone and then submit a claim to PayPal saying it was never delivered. PayPal always side with the "buyer" and will refund them and debit your account, whether there are funds in it or not. They will then come after you for the money.
This and it's becoming more common, they will also return items, get a posting certificate for a random object and can still claim hey returned it. Search on here, it happens more often than you think.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
