Hi all

I'm planning a road trip this summer to take in some sights of our beautiful country. Unfortunately I've only got just over a week this time, but I'd like to get some input on decent driving roads to try out (in terms of both scenery for the missus, and driving pleasure for me wink)

Approximate plan is to leave on a Friday morning from Southampton and take the quickest route to the Severn Bridge. From here we will travel across the Brecon Beacons up through Wales to Llyn Clywedog to stop for lunch (recommended by a fellow SD1 owner). From here then up to the NE edge of Snowdonia where we're booked into a B&B for 2 nights. We'll only be a few miles from the 'Evo triangle' so we'll try that out at some point over the 2 days.

Then on the Sunday we shoot across to the Peaks to stay in a little village near Bakewell, where we'll be based for 4 nights. I'd like to drive Snake Pass and the Cat & Fiddle road (although I understand there'll be average speed cameras by then, doh!).

From Thursday we have no definite plans, but may drive back via Peterborough to visit relatives.

I'm making a list of routes to try and places to go so if anyone has any suggestions please let me know!!

Cheers

Carl

Between the Snake & Cat n Piddle do the A5004 Long Hill, excellent road. Just keep an eye out for bikes, plenty of us up there when it's dry & some have no idea when to overtake or not.
The A6 from Buxton towards Matlock is a nice twisty run down the side of the river too, but can be speed traps on the short straights.
All covered with pointless 50 limits as is the way in Derbyshire of course.

I forget the road numbers but to head Peterborough way i'd go past Loughborough, it's slightly longer but a lovely run through Melton Mobray & past some resivoir rather than the straight boredum of the A14.

if your in Snowdonia it'd be rude not to do the Lamberis pass, chocker with buses & cars but stunning views from the pub at the top. IIRC there is a steam train to the top of Snowdon from Lamberis town too.
