Hi - I've just been a bit daft I think.

I have recently downloaded a load of new music into "my music" folder on my PC. This is where my iTunes library folder had been held as well.

I've had a previous issue where I had a stack of duplicate files, most of which didn't work. In an attempt to avoid that I moved the "iTunes Library" to a different folder and told iTunes where that new folder was.

I then went back into iTunes to add the entire "My Music" folder again to the library in order to ensure I picked up all the new folders.

Disaster! Most of the folders are now completely empty and have no music in them at all. What's worse is the moved folder doesn't appear to have the music in it either.

So I now can't find where any of these files have gone. My iPhone and ipod still have many of them on of course but I really don't want to plug them in in case the empty library over writes them.

I could really do with an assist if anyone can help?

Sharepod will get your music from your ipod. As for your music, ahve you tried to do a simple search, looking for music files, and see if they are in a folder you are not aware of?

Good call - but now I'm even more confused...I appear to have a duplicate folder called "music" in my "user/music" folder.

confused

Anyway at least I can repatriate the music into the right place!

If you consolidate your library, iTunes will lump it in a new folder, containing everything. I presume this is what you did?

First tell iTunes to use a different folder for iTunes (ie. D:\itunes)
Then consolidate the library under Organize... (checking both tick boxes).
Check all your music is in there and then delete all the other music.

Third party apps or not, you still need to understand where your music is whatever program you use.
