M5 e39 front brake discs
Discussion
Hi, any body suffer from disc corrosion? stripped mine down yesterday as the the steering wheel starts to wobble a bit after hard driving. found inside of brake disc heaverly corroded and scored on both sides although the out side of disc is not bad. Suppose it's down to crappy single piston calipers
Was thinking about replacing the discs with Ebc combi's(third of price)or some other suitable brand name other than the standard Bmw parts as I dont'want to suffer the problem again after shelling £500 on what look likes an inferior set up for a heavy sporty car
Would appreciate some feedback on other brands if anyone has tried some.
Thanks in advance

I got told by a well known specialist that if you're going for standard sized discs the proper BMW ones are the only ones worthwhile - anything else is rubbish.
Price doesn't vary from the specialists either as I believe BMW have retained the patents on these discs for some reason.
The alternative would be to get a big brake kit but that's over £2k and, in my experience, the brakes are fine for road use.
Might it be worthwhile servicing your calipers to ensure they're working properly first?

I just replaced my disc and pads only the other day because of the same problem, i was getting a bit of wobble when at high speed while braking. Thought the discs must've given it up and could've been possibly warped. Turns out that the discs were both fine and it was the caliper that was at fault on one side, and the piston had seized so was sticking. Decided to keep the new discs anyway, so the old ones are up for sale if anyone wants them!

Compare dealer prices with www.bmminiparts.com usually a good saving to be made on genuine BMW parts.
If the discs have still got plenty of wear left in them, you could consider getting them skimmed on a brake lathe (discs stay on car, machine spins hub and lathes disc).
Then it sounds as though the calipers need a good overhaul. Make sure the sliding pins and bushes are in good condition and that the carrier where the brake pads sit, doesn't have any build ups of rust/s
t. The pads need to be able to move freely or the braking wil be uneven. The single pot calipers are a bit of a weak spot, but if they're kept in good condition, they are more than adequate for fast road use.
