So found out a week ago I'm going to be a Dad which is great news. Now I feel I should be seen to be reading a book on the subect or something, so does anyone have any recommendations or should I just wing it come labour day?

Also I've noticed the MENTAL coming on a little stronger! Is this normal? Her favourite at the min is saying she's cold, yet she won't put on anymore clothes and I'm sat in the apartment sweating my nuts off in boxers and no a/c! Thing is we live in a tropical country!
Advice?

Congratulations. Father of two myself and when the first was due thought exactly the same as you. Have to say that the wife bought that many books and magazines that buying one for myself didn't seem necessary. They normally contain enough information you need regarding the stages of pregnancy and the choices regarding the day itself and as regards parenting it is surprising how quickly and natural the whole thing becomes. The only thing I had to be taught was how to change a nappy and the nurse on the maternity ward wouldn't let me leave without her supervising me doing it.

Advice: Enjoy the cab while you can!

Books and mags: If that's how you generally learn things, then go ahead, otherwise don't worry too much, it's not that hard to work out and the mum is probably taking care of that already. The less you stress, the less your baby will stress. So if reading books and preplanning will make you stress less, then do it. If reading books makes you visualise all the things that can go wrong and freaks you out, don't do it.

Also, wax earplugs work well and are discreet;)

EDIT: Oh, and congratulations!

Thanks for all the nice responses, personally I'm just trying to keep under the radar when mood swings occur.

I'll check that book mentioned thanks.

Congrats. One bit of advice, when the little darlings grow up, and say "Daddy, can you put this in the loft for me", DO NOT DO IT.

My "Little Darlings" have now all flown the roost, and I can get in my loft for all their bloody stuff. If I didn't know better I would believe the teddies are having sex up there, there are loads of them, and boxes of stuff well over 20 years old.....

Anyway, enjoy them whilst they are young, they grow up so quickly.

Congrats, it is the best feeling ever when you hold the little un for the first time.

Be prepared for extreme sleep deprivation though.

Congratulations!

"Fatherhood", by Marcus Berkmann. Very accurate, and quite funny. It is much more what you will need as a dad than the many other publications you will, no doubt, read.
