Caliper Paint

I've been trying to spruce up my calipers. On the first attempt I stripped the existing paint with paint stripper then applyed two coats of caliper paint from halfords. I was not happy with the results so stripped them again and applyed 5 coats, yes five coats of spray hammerite, still blotchy.So stripped them again but this time also give them a good rotary wire brushing and sprayed them again.I'm still not happy!

The carriers seem to take the spray hammerite quite well but the calipers not so.Should I be using the brush on hammerite instead of the spray or am I missing something here?

Three coats of Halfords brush on caliper paint, I was happy with finish



Looking a little grubbyer a year later but reckon an in situ touch up will do.

I applied Hammerite with a brush in three coats, any thicker and I think it will just chip too easily. The problem with painting castings with either the brush or a spray is the uneven surface and sharp edges, the paint tends to run away from the high points and edges so it takes some perseverance to get a decent finish.

Whats wrong with your paint job ?

Same, I just brushed some red hammerite over them carefully and built it up. I was surprised how good it looked!

Thanks guys, I've just bought hamerite brush on Gold with the hamerite brush on special metal primer. Probably will try the primer followed by two coats of the gold stuff will tell you how i get on.

Hi Neil, gold works fine and looks the dogs danglies when viewed through the wheels, mine are gold, I got the idea from my bruv in law clivef, he had a very nice bronze coloured S2.
