17 year old, TVR, first car, insurance HOW?
Discussion
It MUST be do-able at a reasonable price. Somehow!
Something like this: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2010...
How can I get the price of insurance down? I know it won't be cheap but there must be a way, like insuring as a second driver + Locked Garage + Low annual milage + Other thing + Other thing etc.
Or am I being too hopefull and there's no way on earth it's gonna happen?

Sorry to agree with Bluejay10 but really... DON'T think about it yet.. for your own sake.
When I got my first TVR, I'd had 10 years of experience driving decent performing RWD cars.
3 weeks later I was in hospital and the car was written off after a bigtime crash :-(
I LOVE the fact that it's your dream and that you REALLY want that car NOW.... but please... get a couple of years in
of "normal" driving before jumping!
They are great cars but REALLY unforgiving.... Make a mistake a normal car through inexperience and generally you get thrown out of shape...
the same mistake in a TVR CAN result in something a lot LOT worse....
I honestly think you'll thank us for putting you off in the long term!
Sorry

I knew I was going to get these kind of responses..
May I just ask what aspect precisely you define as 'Dangerous'? The speed? The acceleration? The overall handling makes it hard to controll? Just curious..
I'm assuming you have the same views on something like this?: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2009...

The difference is the Lotus dosnt have over 200 ft/ib of torque or the same bhp per ton!

Seriously unless your a very talented driver I wouldnt get one as a first car.
Insurance will be crazy as well, you just won't get it, I got the Tuscan when I was 24 and found it near impossible to get insured on it.
I don't think you have a cat in hell's chance of getting insured on either - and there's reason for that...
It just makes no sense to jump into a vehicle like that, you miss the whole learning curve of driving. It may not sound like much fun, but anything vaguely sporty will usually, by it's nature, have higher limits before things start to go wrong, but you've got to be on the ball when it does. Assuming you're not some budding Lewis Hamilton with 10 years motorsport experience, you really need to get into something which is predictable and underpowered. Learn about what a car does as it reaches it (lower) limits, how to drive smoothly and safely, to conserve speed, not to drive on the brakes.
Powerful cars make you lazy because you don't need to plan your driving - skip the learning phase and you'll never drive properly.
If you really want something that isn't the standard Micra/Corsa/Saxo etc, what about something like an MX5 or an E36 318is? Both RWD with adjustable safe handling and not too much power - still think you'd struggle to insure it though...

Ok, I see what you're all saying
What decent car, with reasonable insurance would you recommend? Something that doesn't end with -unto, -scort, -stra or -orsa
I started out with a 1.3i mini classic was fantastic fun (and faster down B roads than my mates -sort/-stra-orsa etc). Plus you can work on them very easily and learn quite abit about engins lol.

Hmmmm - A 17 year old who has just passed their test who thinks they are a perfect driver?
That's never occured before.
I'm not 17 and I havn't passed my test. I'm just looking around for cars, why be so judgemental Stevie? That's never occured before.

It's no coincidence most of us Tiv owners are either grey or bald
