John is under pressure from Pauline to become a Lord. The problem is he has spent all his political life despising the House of Lords and all it stands for.

My bet is he will go for the Ermine to make Pauline a Lady unfortunately it wont make him a gentleman.

He's not as champagne as most of the current crop of socialists - but he still enjoyed the trappings when he had them.

Of course he will. Hypocrite of the highest order.
Look at how the man was shouting 'sleaze, sleaze' when members of the Tory party were having extra marital affairs.

I expect it will be the 'I can attack it from within and keeping enemies closer' bullst speech.

No doubt, he has left most of his principle behind so this will happen.

You jest, the non-Labour appointees are generally pretty bright. You think he fits in well with Thatcher and Lawson?

Since the Lords configuration changed under Labour (jobs for the union and bully boys boyos only and twunts like Sugar) I have lost ALL respect for the HoL... at least before they were knowledgeable and educated, nowadays just yobs in suits being rude to each other as in HoC....
If Fatty 2Jags (P&o Ferry steward) gets a Peerage then I'll be handing in my passport in shame...

Frankly I'd be gobsmacked if he didn't at least try. I dearly hope that he get refused.
Refused? Who's going to do that then? He was DPM for 10 years, of course he's not going to be refused. Even if the Torys get in in May all the former Labour cabinet ministers of rank who retire will get in. It's the system, even Gorbals Mick when straight to the upper house without passing go or handing back his expenses. Prescott is no less deserving than most of the self serving tts on both sides of the chamber who go to the Lords. Jeffrey Archole is still in the Lords despite doing time and then there's Conrad Black...

I don't think he'll be able to resist, he'll hate himself for it but will accept....Hope it doesn't trigger his bulimia again.

I'm sure he'll accept. He never missed an opportunity to be an embarrassment to the Country before, so why miss this one?
