Handbrake shoe retaining pins - how to get to them?

Seriously, does it need the work of witchcraft or something?

The pin is located about 10mm behind the drive flange, so there is no room to get a hex bit in there or anything. Please tell me you aren't meant to remove the drive flange just to get to them?

A ball ended hex key should reach them OK

I have this to look forward to...the pins snapped when I tried to take mine apart in November...now getting the point where I start to put stuff back on...not looking forward to this part of the rebuild TBH

I am just going to replace the shoes and buy a new fitting kit...which might help as it will be new stuff..?

I know exactly what you mean. I've only done one side so far, but one pin just about came out after snapping it and then managing to pull it free with pliers. The other side has snapped and doesn't want to come out at all!

Going to try and hard as I can to get the other side to come out easier than Ricky Martin.
