Help required calculating landed costs
Discussion
Just thought I'd run this past the experienced importers here, I'm looking to import a small plastic product that is then assembled in the UK into a finished product. I'm trying to work out my landed costs and just need to know if I've missed anything?
Product cost from factory
Shipping
Insurance
Import duty
Port handling charge (if any)
VAT
Transport within the UK
The products will be coming in around one/two pallets at a time.
It is my understanding that VAT is charged on the landed cost, so would that be the cumulative figure just before "transport within the UK" as shown above?

Looks like you are coming in on a mixed container with loads of other peoples stuff . Your best bet is to speak to your shipper to find out what services they offer and at what cost. You've covered all the bases but check with the shippers if you can collect with your own transport once they've split the container. You could save Vat on the inland transport if you use a man and van or DIY.
You have missed the biggest - unless the seller is charging you GBP.
Currency exchange and currency risk - ongoing.
We are plastic moulders but also import some little bits. The cost movement year on year due to currency is BIG. We hit this years import by paying a while back when 1.68 was the deal - now back to 1.50 of course. On a 70 grand order that makes a difference.
And being plastic, the basic price changes for materials. At present the materials people are trying to catch the last Space Shuttle - prices would certainly pay for a ticket or two to the moon.
