Legal drug epidemic
Discussion
Reading this makes me wonder where this will end up.

Banning it will obviously work, like it has for all the natural produce.
Are we going to see Columbian death squads storming Chinese chemical factories as they take over the global drug trade? Or will they just go back to tending their goats and chewing coca?
There is a huge shift in global economics happening, this trade is worth over £300 billion a year.
Interesting times..

Legislation in it's current form will not be able to keep pace with the development of sythesised drugs. They will have to re-write the law to outlaw whole groups of substances based on their basic make-up. Otherwise banning it substance by substance will never keep pace.
They should just legalise the f
king lot - have people make their own choices - regulate supply - tax it and cut off funds to the criminal gangs.
I has some of that 'legal weed' on Saturday. Horrible stuff, far worse after effects than the natural product - I still feel like s
t today. I wouldn't touch it again

I would imagine we have laws in place to prevent unlicenced manufaturers making copy viagra and other pharmaceutical drugs, so can't these same laws be used against people distributing not-yet-banned recreational drugs ?They should just legalise the f

Copywrite laws aren't going to help as recreational drugs obviously aren't brand-named - and since the Chinese pay scant regard to ripping off other peoples intellectual property anyway - it's unlikely to be an effective deterrant.
It's laughable that the government think that prohibition actually limits the consumption of a substance - all it does it put the supply - and the money - into the hands of criminals. So people pay baddies, a lot more money, for a much worse (and arguable more dangerous) product.
And yes it was 'Spice' - i'd wouldn't go near it again. It left me feeling like i'd been on a massive E-binge but without the nice MDMA related afterglow. Horrible, horrible stuff

I don't think thats a fair comparison considering the culture gap. Part of the problem could be availability, getting drugs into singapore for instance is somewhat risky and difficult to do.
whilst worked in Saudi Arabia, drugs were easily available, despite the death penalty being the only result for importers, lots of shoot to the death when the importers were found....
looks like the chinese know what they are doing, why grow it when you can mix some chemicals and produce it, lot safer for them as it is the people in the chain who get busted
prohibition never works, would be nice to legalise and tax the lot, having a pure substance cut with nothing will be a lot better than some of the crap that it gets mixed with

People always have and always will eat, drink, smoke, inhale and in extreme cases inject stuff to get off their heads.
Mushrooms, cactus, coca, cannabis, opium etc have been used for thousands of years for this purpose.
Laws don't stop this practice, they just fill the jails and put the profits and the control in the hands of criminal gangs.
And now the laws have made it easier to get drugs into the country in this manner, (the synthetic stuff) which is completely untested.
Madness, but people will, as they always have, take whatever is available.
