Looking through the back of my 2 Christopher Ward automatics I was initially annoyed that half the movement is covered up by a bit that swings around as you move it. Then it occured to me - is this the thing that winds it up??

Yes.

I think you need a manual wind watch to see more of the movement.

Yep, that's the rotor! smile Some of them can look really rather special! I would find a picture, but most images searches are blocked at my workplace ... I quite like the look of the Tag Heuer 1887 movement with it's rotor:



You would need a manual wind watch to see more of the movement, but then some of these are covered and decorated with Geneva Stripes:



A skeleton watch would be best! biggrin
