I have an intermittent engine problem. On occasions when travelling at 60 to 75 mph if I have to deaccelerate i.e to exit a motorway or slow for traffic conditions the engine cuts out. I have to switch of the ignition and restart the engine which does start right away and the fault does not occur again. This has happened on about 10 occasions during the last 3 years and the main jag dealer cannot find anything wrong with the engine. On two or three times when the problem has occurred when restarting the engine again a cloud of white smoke has been passed through the exhaust system.

Intermittent problems are always a nightmare.

best suggestion is to find a good independant mechanic, as likely they'll know more about cars than a main dealer. Unless you're lucky with the main dealer and someone there does have a brain.

Does it use any water?

No I haven't noticed an excess use of water but if it is water vapour that emits from the exhaust then it will probably not be noticeable considering the times per year the problem happens. Someone has suggested this answer but the Main Jag dealer discounted it.
