Hi guys, you might have seen my white S1 for sale in the classifieds...? The time has come for me to move it on as I need a car with backseats and a boot. I've started doing triathlons and I can't fit the bike in the S. There simply isn't a way round it and I can't keep it.
I'm having some trouble selling it though. It's been on for two weeks now but I haven't received a call...is it too much? I thought pistonheads would be the place for it but should I extend my reach by using other online services like autotrader?

Hiya, sorry to hear you're selling
As they say: 'it's worth what someone will pay'.
Prices seem wierd at the moment (some quite high, some bargains) and there are many people uncertain of the future that may not want to spend much on cars like ours. That said, it's a good time of year to sell and you only need 1 buyer - the right one.
I've bought 3 cars and 2 bikes via ebay and have no qualms. It's only like buying via a newspaper or whatever, just a method of introducing buyer to seller.
You can always put it on to gauge what offer might be made?

Shame to hear you're selling. I'll be honest; I think the asking price is a tad on the high side. It's an earlyish one but looks in good condition appart fron the slight scuff marks described. History also looks pretty good, however I didn't spot a word about the chassis. I think this and some pictures would help.
All I can say is there are a few things in the description that would naturalluly put people off. I would reword some things slightly and include pictures of the areas of interest. And at this price I'd also say that I'm open to offers.

Sorry your going, you will regret it, but I dont think that it will be soon at that price. The cars worth that to you certainly, expecially with the engine rebuild, but could be £2k overpriced to sell reasonibly quickley.
Why not look at a lightweight tow hitch and a small trailer?

£2,000 over priced!? Are you serious, I bought it for £4,000 and spent around £6,000 so far on top of that. That would be so devastating I can't comprehend it.Why not look at a lightweight tow hitch and a small trailer?

I like the trailer thing! No, but really I'm not going to be driving to Barcelona like that to take part in a competition - it's too uncomfortable for that and not practical with wetsuits, bags etc etc
I appreciate everyone's comments. Chassis is in very good condition, no problems, mainly because it was stored for about 6 years. I shall add that. I've tried to be as honest as possible.
I've just seen that I've actually had some responses but they were filtered out through my spam mail and sent to junk. One says that the number I have provided is a premium number so it's cheaper to email - I used that service where pistonheads hides your personal number...might try changing that.

Sorry PierceI know its not what you wanted to hear, you'll note I referred to selling quickly. It might well sell at your asking price but I dont think it will be quick.
If you look at prices on PHeads there one S1 sold at £3.8k, 4 S2s sold at an average of just under £4.2k and the only other S1 for sale is at £3.8k. I do think that an S3/4 will atract more than a S2 and an S2 will attract more than an S1, with a V8 more expensive than all.
Your car should be an absolute corker with what you have spent/done, if you can wait then should be OK but I would also advertise on Autotrader to reach outside the community.

Yep, fair enough Norman I can see the logic. I would say that mine can't really be compared to them though - it's got a reconditioned engine for a start and new clutch blah blah. It's a different proposition but you're right, if I want it to go quick then I'll need to drop the price.

Sorry Pierce but I agree with Norman, I know you have spent a fortune on it but to be brutally honest a lot of it was to solve problems rather than improving it as such ie, you really need a working engine etc in order to sellyour car effectivley, In the nicest possible way unless you reduce the price of your car you may not find a buyer, also to be fair the engine bay shot does highlight that your chassis may not cosmetically be the best. Please don't take this as anything other than advisory and it is meant to help you as best I can, Good luck with it.

I looked at a few S Series cars described as "stunning" or "immaculate" which turned out to be one step from a breakers yard before getting my S.
I think if you wait then you will get good money for it, it is a case of finding that buyer who wants something a bit special and is prepared to pay for it.

I think pretty much anyone who wants a TVR is drawn to this site. eBay will see it sold but you won't get as much for it. You can try Car and Classic however, when mine was advertised, I've always had people emailing through the site about it (but no serious buyers). I would relook at your advert, take some more pictures and be more positive about the car, obviously not being dishonest. People who know anything about these cars won't expect everything little thing to be working or without blemish.

I see there are 69 chim`s for sale and 5 S`s.
I think the price is fair. If people dont want to buy it they wont.
But i dont see why people want to give these cars away for next to nothing.
For me Peirce, if you want a quick sale you have to reduce it. If you want what its worth stick to your guns.
As someone said, you only need one buyer who wants a good car.

It's not about giving it away for nothing - it's about what somebody will pay for it.
If you overprice a car you might get what you want for it, but it will likely take a lot longer than if you price it keenly.
If somebody is looking for a cheap way into a TVR and are not fussed about whether they get an S or a Chim, they might ask themselves why not a Chim if it is the same money? On the other hand an S enthusiast might pay the money for a really good S.
I must admit I find it difficult to understand the premium that V8 S' command. I love the shape of the S, and a really nice V8 one must sound great and go very nicely too. But for the same money you can get a nice 4.0 Chim...

It's all down to choice and supply and demand.Chims are great cars, there are quite a few of them compared to the V8S though, so there is a rarity value. I understand the S is more 'chuckable' too if that's important.
I like the chim but would rather have the S
