As a complete newcomer to the "tvr classics" part of this forum I would like to say hi to you all.
I'm a Chimaera500 owner, a classic car enthusiast and I always had a thing for the pre 1980 Tvr's.. and now I've finally taken the plunge and bought one, over the phone, unseen! I spotted the 3000M in the PH classifieds and made a credit card deposit straight away.
The handbrake works, thats gotta count for something, right?

Hello Cedar,

I dont have a classic TVR, although I would love one. I am sure the denizens of this corner will be along soon to offer their advice.

I suppose the hand brake is a start, what about the rest? Out of interest which one did you buy ?

I got the silver 3000M from Jon at SSCC TVR, I think he just removed the ad, but you might have spotted it. Took it home in the back of my van and unloaded it yesterdaynight ( try squeezing a tvr in a van, aided by nothing more than some planks of wood.. it seemed a good idea at the time LOL). In a nutshell: lots of history (still haven't read it all), an older body-off restoration, needs new paint and some Tlc for sure. I'm gonna take a good look (in the daylight) on my lunch break, can't wait..

Welcome to the fold. If the handbrake works your one step in front of most of us.
Found my M a bit strange at first (after a Wedge) - tight fit in the cabin, but love it now.

Best of luck

I have previously owned a Grantura and a 3000M .
I am in north Scotland and also bought the 3000M over the phone from the Blackpool area aided by a few pics and a few phone calls and never regretted it as it was a beauty and performed perfectly for the 3 years I had it.
I would have no hesitation in doing this again as I feel that there still exists a bit of trust amongst TVR and classic owners . I would NEVER EVER consider contemplating this when buying modern cars for my wife and kids .
ENJOY your TVR ownership...

Brian..

Over the easter weekend I did a couple of test drives, and everything is lookin great so far.

- frown
. the body needs a complete new paint job, the paint is micro-blistered and dull
. greenhouse window seal looks a bit old
. some carpets are a bit worn
. the bumpers need rechroming (were painted black to look like rubber ones)
. some minor niggles

+ smile
. Chassis looks sound, having had a body off resto many years ago
. seats are perfect, sunroof is smooth and tight as are the wind down windows
. all electrics seem to work
. invoices show a full engine rebuild with a "hot" road/race cam less than 5000miles ago, and she pulls very strongly indeed.

++ evil
. She sounds simply awesome through her stainless exhaust and manifolds (and a pipercross filter), especially higher up the rev range when the cam does its magic. (my brother thinks its sounds even better than my chimaera500 with act exhaust)
