Gents

I've a 2005 330cd which up until recently has been running like a dream. However I've started to notice blue smoke pour out the back, especially when I boot it!

Now it doesn't happen all the time but my oil warning light came on and I've only just recently topped it up! I've checked today and it's quite low so I'm having to put more in?

Initially I thought the blue smoke might be the turbo but I'm now starting to think it may be something to do with the oil!

Any ideas?

Cheers

White smoke would normally indicate a blown turbo. Blue smoke is an indication that it's more likely to be an oil related issue. Could be oil passing the piston rings. Could be a blocked breather pipe, leading to oil bypassing and being forced out. However, it could be passing via the turbo and still be blue. Can't really offer a definite answer. When was the last time the oil separator was changed?

Sorry I can't be of more help, but there are plenty of people on here who can offer proper advice! smile

My uncle had the same symptoms on his 525d, ended up being a blocked crankcase breather, which in turn went on to kill the turbo.

Undo the oil filler cap, and see if it makes a pressurised release noise when undoing it.
