Not been to Odiham before but am also going to this on the 18th with my RX7, a friend with an MNR Vortx and another with a P1 Impreza. Should be a good day!

Oh and for those asking, it's an RMA day but can also be booked through trackdays.co.uk

I'm planning on going too in my Mk2 Golf GTI.

RAF Odiham normally hosts 4 trackdays a year, all run by RMA. The one on 18 April is the second and the next ones are 18 July and 17 October. The summer one is normally a big "extravaganza" and has stuff for the whole family to enjoy.

The track has been criticised in the past for having quite a loose surface. I think it gets swept before each event now, so hopefully it will be fine this time. The track incorporates the main runway, so a lot of cars can top-out as it's pretty long and straight!

Normally great days and very well organised and run.

See you there!

I went once - needed a new windscreen & the front of the car looked like it had been blasted with a 12 bore; repeatedly frown

Never again.

I went last summer. Great track. No problem with too many cars on the track at once and no more problems with grit.
It's a good track to test limits as there are no walls and unlimited runoff area. Last time we were there Don Palmer was there offering 60min lessons on control.

The police helicopters are based there too and they fly around taking ariel pictures. He put them on a cd for me for free.

I've been there and have done 2 track days. The surface is good, especially on the runway, as you would expect but the piano keys are slippery (white paint!) and the runoff goes downhill a fair way into a fence. Also don't hit any runway lighting!!!!! V Expensive.
The taxiway is ok there are a few bits rough ish surface but the 'track' is checked beforehand.
Its a good circuit, I've done a few Silverstone/Bedford/CC/Llandow/Colerne etc. Colerne was very abrasive.

Its well run and if you go to the summer extravagnaza they'll put on a mini flying display right by the paddock!

Was looking into going along to this also with my Z4M as it's very local for me!

Never been on a true track day though (only car control courses), so was wondering how busy it would be?

only one real bottleneck, if you look at the track (its actually run the other way ie clockwise, at the lower left, Westerly bit before the runway where the chicane is it can get busy.

Elsewhere its ok as long as people remember that the straight is very fast and you need to brake hard for the slightly downhill piano keys on the easterly edge, oovershoot and you go down a grassy embankment into a fence.

TG is based at Dunsfold in Surrey. Almost did Odiham late last year as a mate of mine is based there so could kill 2 birds with 1 stone so to speak! Bottled it as I am really unsure about taking my 996 C2 on a trackday & risk it potentially getting damaged, if not by me then somebody else! Appreciate you can get insurance but with the trackday fee, presumably new (rear) tyres & heavy brake wear it would be an expensive day? Have just purchased a Clio 172 Cup to do hillclimbs/sprints with, maybe I could use that as its worth a lot less & tyres / brakes etc a lot cheaper to replace!

I'll be there too in a flourescent yellow/green Caterham. I was there last year and thought it was a good circuit for an airfield, so nice high speed sweeping curves after the long runway finishing with a 110mph+ right hander which was fun sliding it over the blind crest (in a caterham)! Surface also seemed good for an airfield. Only down side is the huge straight on the runway. Bit frustrating overtaking the GT3RS' on the first part of the runway only to sit there on the limitter at 140mph for a mile to see them come past you again, still the breaking at the end of the runway soon redressed the balance!

It is a good track and the back end of the circuit has some decent, fast, bends that are quite technical - nail them right and it's very rewarding.

The best bit is the main runway - think of The Whacky Races and you'll understand what I mean smile

Oh and there are no overtaking rules - so be careful everyone as people will overtake you in the braking zones and in the bends....

I'll be there. I think they now sweep the surface to reduce stone chips.

Can't wait for Sunday biggrin

Managed to borrow a helmet for the day, so do come and say hello to the young chap in one of Tom Chilton's old helmets, driving a bright orange Caterham smile
