Hello (and a little PH collective brain picking - jobs )

Hello,

Thought it was probably about time I introduced myself, have been reading PH and the forums for ages, finally thought I should join a little while ago and pretty much went back to lurking again.

A little bit about myself - I am currently studying for a Postgraduate Masters in Automotive Engineering at the University of Bath, having completed an Undergraduate Masters in Mathematics previously (had a change of heart and decided to go back to cars - you understand I'm sure.) Have loved cars for as long as I knew what one was. Currently have the pleasure of steering a '95 106 Inca - was bought very cheap from my Auntie for me to get around for this year and really doesn't particularly suit almost weekly slogs to either Norwich or Coventry, but it never gives up so I can't moan.

Now to the second reason for the post, I have been looking for some work since I moved to the Bath area for my course but to no avail and I am now seriously struggling for money and I refuse to ask my parents for anything more. They have already been beyond generous helping me through, now coming up to, 5 years of Uni. My timetable is very changeable week to week (though I do know it in advance) and I am rarely around at the weekends due to visiting family and better half. I have tried everywhere I can think of to get a job, but due to the lack of flexibility as to when I can work I am struggling - pretty much weekday evenings and some weekdays but normally changes each week.

So I am hoping you knowledgeable people here could offer any suggestions for part-time work. I have tried pubs and shops etc, had a thought the other day about trying cinema/theatre and heard about students driving buses so am in the process of filling in their application form, but as I am only in Bath area until the end of September not sure they will be interested. I have also placed numerous adds for Mathematics and other sciences tutoring to no avail.

So what flexible part-time jobs have people had in the past or just any sensible ideas welcome.

Good with computers? IT break fix cover. I signed up with an agency years ago when I was looking for work. Found a job very quickly but they used to txt me through opportunities for that day. Unreliable and irregular but the cash was ok

What about car washing/valeting, even pizza delivery? Bound to be some vacancies in local pubs/bars perhaps.

Most flexible job I ever had was as a lifeguard. Took shifts as and when I wanted - just a book at Reception with all the shifts, then you wrote your name down against them.

Thanks for the replies, I think I am going to have a proper wander around the local town centre when I get back and check all the local food places/cafe's etc and all the local pubs again.

I have thought about lifeguard before, my best friend used to be one, but I would need the time and money to get qualified.

Any other ideas would be a great help.
