OK,

With the holiday season coming up, I wonder which PH'er is planning to go on the LEAST expensive and MOST expensive holiday this year.

Personally, I think you can have as much fun on a £200 backpacking holiday in the Pennines than a £20,000 world cruise......Each to their own I guess....

Well, my first holiday this year will be spending money only, prob around £150 woohoo, OH parents paying for us to go to their Villa in Spain.
Next couple will be a bit more, one travelling Scotland in TVR, other travelling Scotland, not in TVR. hehe

I think you should work out by cost/day giving you a day price.

If I did this I think my Le Mans Trip (Along with a load of other PH'ers) would probably win.

I'm going Camping at Breck Farm, North Norfolk in September. I suspect that'll be cheap.

Open fires, crabbing, kite flying etc...all free.

Cheap hol:

  • Long weekend at my parents house in Mudeford
Expensive hol:

  • My Brother's wedding on Hilton Head Island (South Carolina). Saying that all we have to pay for are the flights/hire car and the usual food/drink.
My Brother and his Fiancee have hired a large beach house for us all to stay in.

All i've got to content with will be taking a 1 year old on a plane!

I just managed a week in Mallorca, following the Rallye Isla Mallorca, and spent no more than £300 all in.

Flight 659
Hotel $15 per night
Days Diving $50 X 10
Beer $2.00 So about $20 per day.
Food $3.50/$7.00 Per day

Forget all this 'all inclusive' stay at your hotel and see nothing mylarky. Cheap is good and its the best way to travel.

Having a family of five and needing to go in school holidays I find it completely impossible to spend less than about £3k or so on a holiday and very easy to spend a lot more.
I hate families and rubbish holidays for loads of money.

Posts like these make me think my plan of opening kennels for children is going to be a real money spinner.

I was taken to Mexico. 1 week 5* all inclusive, didn't even have to pay for my diving.
All in all with a few trinkets, and a meal out to say thank you before hand I think it cost me about £250 quid.

I will be away to a friends place in Spain later this year, about £100 return flights and about £50 for my share of the car hire. Food and drink maybe £50-75 for a few days. not going to break the bank.

Not to bad so far.

Hmm, not a bad idea. The wives are the problem though. They have this bizarre idea that kids should have a holiday and a nice upbringing and all that crap.

Me & a few mates go camping every year in Porthcothan in C.wall.
Campsite is dirt cheap as it's the farmers spare fields, toilet & shower block.
2 minute walk from the beach.
It's about £5 a day.
If the weathers nice theres no better place to be.
But if it's terrible, man it's bad!

Got back from getting married in Australia. I think as far as costs go, it's a biggie. (6 weeks)

I'm now off to Spain for a week. It's a cheap one, as it's just poverty spec flights (staying with family).

Cheap holiday:

2 adults, 4 children, 1 dog, have to take holiday in school time.

Father-in-laws 50 year old static caravan in Anglesey: Free.
Diesel to get there: probably more than renting a more modern caravan would cost.
Food: Same as if we stayed at home.
Fun quotient: High, we offered the kids the chance to do a few holiday types this year, but they want to go back to the caravan, where we all sleep in the big central room, barbeque in the little garden, play on the beach and climb rocks and walk along the coast a lot.

I think I may win on the cheapest holiday category! I don't think this type of holiday will be suitable for many more years, but as the kids are at the age where they just enjoy being kids, it's perfect for us.

We will be doing other days out over the summer holidays, probably go to Alton Towers one day, also visiting the in-laws in Shap for a few days. Some of the children will go and stay with my parents when my eldest goes back into hospital for a few days, the caravan week or so will be the main holiday.

If I can get out to asia again this year for 3 weeks, it will be roughly £1400 (800-900 on filghts) and the rest on cheap accomodation...

But if I was to take into account the amount of money I will lose being a contractor it then gets scarily expensive...

£6k, two people, 10 days is the only holiday I'm having this year unless I get desperate enough to go camping.
