I just received a call from a withheld number on the land line. Someone asked for me by name and then asked if I received sky through a satellite dish then said a company name (which I didn't catch) thanked me for completing their survey and hung up.

What was all that about then?

Should I be worried about something? I'm sat with my tin foil hat on at the minute.

They're going to call back to try to sell you a warranty on the Sky box.

You'll now be on the sucker list for every company wanting to advertise to Sky customers. Congratulations

Brilliant, I don't use the house phone anyway I might just unplug it if I keep getting calls.

After a number of calls asking for me by name, I no longer say "speaking" or "yes" if asked "is that Mr. A"? Instead I respond with "Who's calling please?" and if they mumble or rush it, I make them say it more slowly until I can get it clearly. Depending on my mood I might also ask "and your name is?" or "what is it concerning?". I can then decide whether to answer them, or say "I don't think we need to continue this call anymore" and hang up as they are still speaking. A couple of times, after getting a company name and the name of the individual I have told them that the number is listed with the TPS, then registered the call with them TPS.

I know they are only call center agents following a script, but it's not really acceptable to call like that.

OP, alternatively they were looking to see if you were in before breaking in and nicking your TV.

Is it the tv licensing people checking up on you, is your license up to date etc? Have you just moved in, did the previous owner not pay their license etc??

No, they are going to come round, connect the Sky dish to a generator, fry your Sky box, sell you a new one and then sell you a warranty.

Much more lucrative.

I feel like I've missed out - no one has ever tried to market a virgin to me.
