Help - Managed to do something wierd to my Mac
Discussion
Hi all,
I managed to do something a bit daft to my Mac Mini. Yes, alcohol may have been involved. I didn't think my mouse was working, and after a few random clicks, managed to completely flip my colour scheme so that everything's its opposite colour. I've tried google and mac-forums but can't find anything helpful. I'm running Snow Leopard and am wondering whether I have to re-install or whether there's a simple reset I can do.
Can anyone help, please?
Thanks,
Nidj.

Probably best you didn't get on the internet drunk.
Alcohol + eBay = a Samurai sword, a part worn motorbike tyre & remote control flying saucer.
Haha! So I'm not the only one, then Alcohol + eBay = a Samurai sword, a part worn motorbike tyre & remote control flying saucer.

Alcohol + ebay = a foot-tall Donnie Darko talking bunny... "Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?"

The same display change can be "toggled" by holding down Ctrl+option+cmd (Ctrl+alt+cmd) and pressing 8.
It's not just drunk Mac users...This 'problem' has been reported, and I have no reason to doubt its authenticity, on the Macintoshian Achaia (the Mac tech forums on Ars Technica) as being regularly caused by cats.
Having acquired two kittens recently myself, I can confirm that cats are irresistibly attracted to laptop keyboards. And given that there's an MSI Wind netbook constantly open and operating next to the telephone in my house, it appears that cats prefer Apple laptops to anything else. Perhaps it's the glowing keys. But every time I've sat on the sofa and had my MBP open, one of the kittens has immediately jumped up to dance around on the keyboard.
Now neither of my kittens has managed to activate the reverse-display. It's meant to assist people with poor eyesight, presumably by changing the contrast basis so text tends to be bright on a dark background, as opposed to the normal 'pseudo-paper' black text on white background - but I find that it makes text almost unreadable, because the sub-pixel 'text smoothing' algorithm, which uses individual red, green or blue elements *within* single pixels to anti-alias text, appears to be optimised on the assumption that it will be black text on a white background. I've just tried it now on my 30" Apple display (which is a fairly recent model, so with the very best of the latest panels, and has to be considered one of the highest quality screens you can buy) and the 'white' text I'm typing now into the PH text box is horribly slightly multi-coloured - the sub-pixel 'smoothing' is incredibly visible and letters within words can be yellowish, or cyan - it's like looking at a display when on mildly hallucinogenic drugs. Not pleasant at all.
As mentioned above, there's a chance that it may reduce power consumption, but IIRC the backlight of an LCD panel is always on the power you set, regardless of whether the LCD is black or white (letting no light through, or all light through). This may change with LED backlights, but until each pixel is an LED (OLED panels?), switching the 'paper' colour to black instead of white won't have any real beneficial effect on battery life...
I've had to switch back, it's doing my head in. It's ctrl-alt-cmd-8, or for the Apple crew, ctrl-⌥-⌘-8
