I see from the ads that S1 and S2 price ranges overlap around the £10k mark. What should be my considerations?

I think I would be happy starting with the base models with the aim to get to know the range in years to come, unless someone tells me the 118/120bhp ones do not do the Elise name and experience justice. But I'm not sure if I necessarily have to avoid the higher specs if there happen to be good value/condition ones available. I don't do many long trips and I don't mind the noise or discomfort. I won't do tracks. I don't have a garage.

There's certainly nothing wrong with the lower powered models - if anything they are a purer expression of the car's ethos, if you like, than the more powerful versions.

As for S1 vs S2 decision, you need to drive both to know which you prefer. Personally I think the S2 is a better car but plenty of people prefer the S1.

Horses for courses, I think the S1 is a far more responsive, lighter drivers car, but if you want some level of comfort S2 is for you, if you want race car feel bare bones then S1. As for the power a well set up, well driven 118hp S1,S2 will be as fast point to point as a 111R.
