As title .Main PC multiboot ,defaults to Win7 .Mrs has old laptop ( running win 2k).
On XP -can both connect OK,and more importantly she can print via printer on PC.On Win7 Laptop can see PC ,on Network password says "incorrect password or username for "
\\xxxx-pc when I try her username /laptop name etc and password on homegroup on win7 .As far as I can see thee's no way of networking an older OS with win 7.Any help .
She's got around 200 photos on her hd to sort through and print some off -problem is she won't use my PC

It might be something to do with NTLM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTLM

You could try temporarily downgrading the Win7 NTLM (or enabling it to use LM), or force 2K lappie to use the newer version.

So do I ,but can't see other way of doing it -thought there might be a wireless setup wizard like as in XP -but no .I've even tried Bluetooth -but neither win 7or win2k can find drivers for one of my devices .

Almost certainly the issue. A colleague had the same problem connecting a new Win7 to an existing XP based network which only used workgroups.

Start -> Run ->Secpol.msc

Local Policies -> Security Options ->
Network security: LAN Manager authentication level: * Send LM & NTLM responses

Should do the trick.

I have 3 desktops, 2 XP and 1 Vista, and 2 laptops both Vista. Last year I set up a network to share music files and some folders. To be able to see the whole network I had to download a small LLTD file from the micrsoft site on to the XP machines. About 2 months ago I swapped one of the Vista laptops for another running W7 64bit. This W7 laptop just got on to the network straight away without doing anything.

LLTD linky

The microsoft site is very usefull for resolving network issues between different V's Windows

Not sure if any of this helps but good luck.
