Why don't they just go and do it, it's not like anyone else listens to what NATO say!

Sounds like a step away from the US way of doing things, that has to be a good thing.

It makes sense not to. Much of the Afghan income comes from poppy sales. They can get get several crops a year in so compared to food production it makes commercial sense. When you live a subsistence lifestyle, this is by far your best option.

Spraying and eradicating the crops would simply ps off those farming them and, in all likelihood, turn their allegiances towards the Taliban (despite their view on drugs).

A far better option would be to offer the growers a decent rate (greater than the drugs trade) for the crop and turn the poppies in medical opiates; or simply burn them - it would be cheaper than dealing with the drug problems.

I'm more of the tought that they invaded Afghanistan to create their pipeline and take over the heroine trade.

Didn't the US/ coallition forces promise to buy the crop when they first rocked up in Afganistan? Then didn't they whelch on the deal so the farmers just went back to growing poppies and flogging them to the drug cartels?
Won't they be better off paying the farmers the rate for poppies whilst getting the farmers to grow food? Then if they grow poppies destroy them, if they grow spuds, or whatever, pay them as though they had a poppy crop.

"hello farmer"

"Hello Mr Drug-Cartel-Taliban-man"

"Can you sell me your crop?"

"No, I am selling it to the US administration for a few dollars more than you give me, done deal"

"Oh ok, in that case would you like me to kill you in front of your children?"

"err..how much would you like?"

"Allah be with you"

Hey, I never said it was perfect.
Aren't we supposed to be protecting the locals from the taliban so it is safe for them to bravely move forward into the 16th century?

No I agree with you just that we have no way at all of policing the vast area.

We move out the Taliban move back in and it's goodnight Vienna for any colaborators.

It have been ever thus within invading armies and civvies.
